AMD Subpoenas Microsoft in Intel Case

By Nate Mook | Published April 14, 2006, 3:29 PM

AMD on Thursday issued a subpoena to Microsoft requesting information on its dealings with rival chipmaker Intel, including the Redmond company's decision to support 64-bit chips from both manufacturers. The subpoena stems from an antitrust case AMD filed last year accusing Intel of using illegal scare tactics and coercion.

AMD is seeking details on Intel's response to Microsoft collaborating with AMD on marketing initiatives, as well as discussions at Microsoft regarding AMD's financial viability. The chipmaker said the subpoena should come as no surprise, however, as Microsoft was included on an initial list. A key issue in the AMD case could be the rebates Intel offers computer makers who agree to use its chips exclusively.

AMD gets my vote all the way!! Why doesn't lixus user group together and make their own O.S. and processors.

Its about time for a change.

I don't think there should be exclusive rights.
i'm getting tired of these companies that want to own the whole market.
ei: microsoft, intel.
it's funny how niether of these company's have come up with anything new for years. honestly, win95 isn't a whole lot different from XP, just doesn't seem like 11 years worth of work for a multi-billion dollar company. also seems to be taking intel a long time to get past the P4(i liked the P3 better), although this conroe looks to hold promise.(4meg L2 cache, gonna cost a fortune)
i'd just like to have options when picking computer parts and OS's, not be forced down a narrow path by companies that care more about market share than competative product.

Microsoft hasnt been trying to take over the industry of operating systems. They could have taken out Apple awhile back but instead helped it out (like by releasing microsoft office for mac, because iOffice or w/e its called was crap and still is crap)

Of course they do try !!!
They helped Apple only in order to keep the competitor alive and to be not pursued under antitrust law...

Never say that MS people are stupid... But they want the whole part of OS business as any company would ;) If Apple could do this they would too ;)

And AMD attacks Intel for unfair tactics... they would like to do this either but Intel is still the leader... for now ;)

MS must feel like everyone's b****. Even when they aren't being sued, they are still dragged into court. AMD needs to fight their own battles...

Wouldn't you want to be able to pull in witnessess to support your case if you felt you were being unfairly shut out?

I mean, forgetting for a moment your slant on this issue, why should anyone not be able to pull in witnessess supporting their cases?

It's not like MS can't take the heat, man.

i go intel, because i now own a new dual core macbook pro. but really i have no idea which is better.

truth is i dont need to know anymore, my computer does everything i want it to including half-life 2 at a decent frame rate and generous speeds. (two words- apple's bootcamp) what more is there that i need seriously?

truth be it we have reached an era where the need for faster hardware is not becoming as much of neccessity... whether your windows fanboy or a mac fanboy, we're reaching a point where computers are up to scratch and now its just up to personal preference rather than pure benchmarks.

AMD is kind of like the jealous girl who wants a guy (Microsoft) but can't have him because he's seeing another girl (Intel) so AMD decides that if it can't have Microsoft then NOBODY can.

That's just how I see it. I know, a bit off topic, but it's the first thing that popped into my head.

How does suing Intel make it so no-one can have Microsoft?

The problem with that logic is, the Guy doesn't have anything to do with the girl. If the girl can't find a date, that's her problem. She needs to court another guy, and quit trying to ONLY go after 1 guy. That's retarded.

AMD has their own problems. Microsoft doesn't support one technology or the other, they will program for whoever will support them. AMD is trying to copy Intel. But AMD still runs on Intel chipsets, they opened to door to being liable for this type of stuff, because they CHOSE this platform. They should resurrect the PowerPC since Motorola isn't an Apple partner anymore.

MS supported PPC at one time, they will do it again IF AMD can show it will be worth their time.

Microsoft isn't monogamous by any stretch. That's where this theory lacks.

You have no nerve to say that. Canada is one of the most free companies in the world. Our crime rate isn't as bad as the US. I do respect the US, i have friends that live there.

Don't diss canadians boy.
