AOL IM "Woodstock" Alpha 2 Surfaces

By Aaron Dobbins | Published February 15, 2001, 12:35 PM

Thanks to a BetaNews reader who pointed us to his Web site where you will now find Alpha 2 of America Online Instant Messenger version 4.4.2286. This upgrade features all sorts of bugfixes and improvements to the general function of the software. MapQuest maps have now been incorporated, along with the ability to connect via an HTTPS proxy server, as well as an option to send an "American Greetings" IM. Also added to this release is topical chats and buddy comments. For more information on this release, visit here, or download it now from FileForum.

I'm hearing that this is legit, but I used to personally know viowatch from some AOL warez groups on IRC years ago. This guy knows AOL inside and out, and he has accessed thousands of high-level AOL accounts. I'd be weary of downloading it. Do a profile search on AOL of the word 'viowatch' just to get an idea. In the end, however, I am hearing that this is legit...

Everytime a new version of AOL is released, people continue to slam it for becoming ever more bloated. Tell you what, can we skip it this time? Doesn't it get boring to say over and over? Just continue happily using your AIM alternatives...

Can someone please tell me why I want to use my IM software in conjunction with MapQuest? Where is the synergy in that?

So you can stalk the people you are talking to - find out where they live, get directions to their home, etc. :)

This version of woodstock is very buggy. I've experienced many problems with it for chat rooms. The protocal may be out of sync? Im not too sure. I suggest degrading to the earlier alpha of aim 4.4.

Keep up the work vio!!
