RSSAcer Seeks 12% Market Share in 2008

Acer's acquisition of Gateway has had a definite impact on its overall market share, its chairman said Friday, and forecasted the manufacturer would be able to ship 25 percent more computers in 2008. The boost should allow the company to claim an 11 to 12 percent share during the next year. Analysts have said that Acer likely took over the third spot behind HP and Dell from Lenovo following the deal.
Third quarter profits at the company surged 58 percent behind strong demand for its laptops and growth in emerging markets. Acer expects its fourth quarter numbers to be equally as good, as it hasn't seen any slowdown in demand for its products. Fourth quarter shipments of Acer products are expected to be 10 percent above third quarter numbers, the company said in a conference call.
I recently purchased 2 Acer computers. They came absolutely loaded with crapware. I essentially had to rebuild their software base from the ground up. They need to make significent changes before I could recommended them.

|Compaq/HP, Dell, they all come loaded with crapware. Hardware wise at least Acer seems to be better quality, or they were in the past at least. I haven't seen any recent models.

|on some dell pcs, at least one through small buss, have an option to not include all the garbage.

|That may be true with HP and Dell. I've recently purchase a Acer earlier this year and it was pre-loaded with Vista Premium. There's no problem here... However, if you need to reformat it for whatever reason, YOU WILL NOT FIND THE ACER/WINDOWS DISC ANYWHERE BECAUSE ACER DID NOT INCLUDE IT IN THE BOX!!!
I had to find that out the hard way. Luckily, I had my own copy of XP and Vista. Else, I would've been running on a f-up PC.
The funniest thing is that I bought a Core 2 PC, but Acer chose to install a 32-bit OS on it. Like WTF? Why build a PC that has so much potential and install something that doesn't allow the PC to live up to it's potential???

|Nobody includes Windows discs anymore, this isn't a new thing either. Bought a new Compaq in 1996, no Windows disc anywhere. Just a red "Restore Disc". So it's not like Acer is the only one.
Second part, there is hardly any 64-bit software out there yet not to mention poorer driver support. There's really no reason to use Windows 64 anyway unless you need massive amounts of RAM, and I doubt that Acer came with more than 4GB. ;-)

|It's great that Acer wants to grow, but it appears as though they're only worried about market share and not quality. Market share don't mean a damn thing if you're pushing crappy products. Remember Compaq?

|Is this in the US or globally? Because Gateway only really had any market in the US so it's hard to see the purchase making that much of a difference worldwide.
