Apple Offers Red iPod to Fight AIDS
By Ed Oswald | Published October 13, 2006, 2:06 PM
Apple said Friday that it had teamed up with U2 front man Bono to offer a special edition of the iPod Nano. However, unlike the full-size iPod that was designed for the band, this music player supports Bono's charity Red, which fights diseases in Africa, primarily AIDS.
The 4GB Nano is enclosed in a red case, and will sell for $199 USD. For each unit sold, Apple will donate $10 to the Global Fund to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. In addition, the iPod includes a special $25 Red iTunes Gift card, although it didn't specify what percentage would go to charity.
"Now customers can buy the best music player in the world and do something to help the world at the same time," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We're honored to work with Bono, (RED) and this team to contribute to an incredibly important initiative and help change the way people think about AIDS in Africa."
Several other companies are offering red-colored products in support of Bono's charity. The Gap is selling several red-colored clothing items, and Motorola is offering a red-colored RAZR. While the some of the products have been available in the UK since April of this year, Friday marks the first day the products became available in the US.
"It's wonderful to see this incredible level of commitment from companies that are willing to lend their creativity in the fight against AIDS in Africa, the greatest health crisis in 600 years," Bono said in a statement.
I bought one as soon as I read about it. Not only is it the best player available for the price, if it helps someone to a better life, I'm all for it! KUDOS to anyone that can lend a hand in any manner. Have a great day people...

You have an interesting viewpoint. Can you please explain so I have a better understanding of why you feel the people in Mexico may be in greater need of funding than the multiple millions of people in Africa attempting to deal with aids. Perhaps I am wrong in my view that you feel this way. If that is the case could you explain to me more concisely what you are actually trying to say so I may then ask why, thus understand? I need to feel more clearly where it is that I feel this pain or sense of injustice of some sort comes from.
For the other replys, which I observed and felt sounded like critisisim, condemnation, and judgement/(CCJ) of baadham's expression of view. I ask for an example to show me where anyone has found this language creates an effective resoulution or changes of heart and enlightenment for all involved in any conversation? My experience (and limited at that, smile) has show me that violence or (CCJ) in any form creates violence. Love or smiles create the same in return. Ascended Masters like farmers teach gardening and how to plant seeds. Both are wonderful skills which I have found I've always needed more knowledge of. Has anyone read “nonviolent communication: a language of compassion” by marshall b. rosenberg, ph.d. I found a wonderful way of learning to communicate properly, thus making a simple resolution for all sides to come away happy in all issues, war included.

A final note of an aids conference I went to in 1990. There I saw a document from W.H.O. which stated that the World Health Organization had secretly asked many years earlier for its research scientists to create something which would destroy the T cell of our immune system. I'm not sure 100% if they had done this but he also presented evidence that unknowing physicians also injected the virus created by W.H.O. into millions of people in Africa through free vaccination programs as well as certain areas such as North American homosexual sex trade workers in areas such as New York SanFransico , L.A. etc.. That certainly is an interesting viewpoint to explore if one believes that the power elite exist, and wish depopulation of earth? Namaste all. Lets Be the change to enlighten the world.

|How about channeling funds for direct solutions that have helped children and adults with building their immune systems by providing missing micronutrients. www.mannarelief.org is an organization that has helped.
Since 1999, MannaRelief has transformed the lives of thousands of children in over 70 countries – distributing millions of dollars worth of nutritional enhancement products through more than 300 life-giving ministries.
MannaRelief, a 501(c)(3) entity, will be donating a year’s supply of its glyconutritional supplements to local NGOs to be distributed to the region’s children. To date, MannaRelief’s products have been distributed to more than 47,000 children in over 72 countries.
The"8th Wonder of the World" Concert Series is a global awareness and benefit campaign for children and the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG's). This Global Campaign will be titled "8 for 8". The concerts will be hosted at the natural and man-made 'Wonders of the World'.
Our launch concert will take place at the Great Wall of China near Beijing, China. 'A' list world artists from both the East and West will combine their artistic talent and voices to raise awareness for the Millennium Development Goals.
“HIV/AIDS has truly devastated the children of the developing world and the 8th Wonder of the World concert series is drawing much needed attention to this terrible scourge,” said Ted Jones, executive director at MannaRelief. As noted by internationally respected HIV nutrition expert Lark Lands, Ph.D., "Multiple studies have now shown slower HIV disease progression in those given nutrient supplements. In a world where the vast majority of people living with the virus do not yet have access to antiretroviral drugs, the use of non-toxic nutrients to boost immune function and help improve overall health and functioning while delaying disease progression could, quite literally, be lifesaving.”

|The liberals haven't yet done the math. Anything other than sex between a man and a woman, only 1 lifelong partner, is a potential aids-spreader. Get Motumbo to stop visiting prostitutes as though it were a divine right to do so, that might slow the spread of AIDS in Africa just a bit.

|i agree, although i personally think that we should stop wasting money curing a disease that can be avoided to begin with, and spend money on diseases people cant prevent like cancer. lets face it, you dont get hiv unless you are irresponable. The point is aids can be prevented, dont go to tatoo places that dont sterilize, get tested before sex and dont use other peoples needles for drugs. And of course wear rubber gloves and sterilize things if you are an emt.
really no offense to anyone, but that is my opinion, i am sure many are offended, but the money could be spent helping starving children, and protecting the rights of people who are being repressed.

The money that is charged to keep people with hiv and aids alive longer is crazy compared to the cost of food in third world countries. not to mention the money dumped into aids/hiv research that i really think the scientists are just bulls***ing anyway just to get paid.

I am not so attached to my life that i would put mine and a few thousand others above a few million starving people who couldnt do anything about it.
