Apple Owns Up to iMac Freezing Issues
By the Betanews Staff | Published October 5, 2007, 1:06 PM
Apple confirmed Thursday that there was indeed an issue with a recent software update causing a limited number of its iMac desktops to experience user interface freezes, and that it required a restart to remedy the problem.
The exact reason for the issue is not yet known, although Apple said it has a team of researchers looking into the problem. Once the root cause is identified, a software patch will be issued. An Apple spokesperson said the likely time frame for the fix will be sometime later this month.
iMacs are really cool.
(How cool are they???)
They're freezing!!!
Couldn't resist. LOL

|Don't worry everyone, Microsoft will probably get blamed for this, just like they did with the ipods viruses and etc. Its IE fault on Mac or the new office for mac!! Or they'll just blame some other software company, never apples fault right??

|You hoping for miracle :) They admit that iMac HAVE BUGS and WILL HAVE BUGS and GLITCHES. The same way as Linux and Windows.... like everything else in life...
So no more bull...t about how Mac is solid by design. :)

|Wow... they admit it! Now maybe they could admit that many of their pre-intel ibooks run hot, that the screens suck on them, that their complimentary warranty sucks (after 6 months you pay the shipping!)... that they've filled cubic miles of landfill with ewaste and have done untold environmental damage (hence the Greenpeace campaign against them) are a far cry from the progressive cutting edge company their art-fanboyz claim them to be. Am I ranting!?

You mean when you paid a premium for their computer and they don't even provide at home services?

I bet the locks are because there effort to stop people from putting OSX on third party machines and vmware. (just like locking out iPhone people)
Apple still has the best version of FreeBSD out right???

|While you went a bit overboard here, let's also ask them why my 10 month old MBP has needed a new HD, RAM chip and top case/keyboard assembly.. and why every time I'm in there its always MBP's with the serious problems?
I mean, for a $2000+ laptop, the QC on these should be stellar.. my biggest beef.
My G4 PB never ran like this.

|Okay, I'm a big Microsoft user (NOT a fanboy--there is a difference), but can we still *try* not to make this into a "See? Apple is just as bad as Microsoft" argument?
We can compare the two, but even I have to say that ONE freezing issue does not make Apple = Microsoft. Not that anyone will listen or care...
...why am I here again :o ?

The reason that there's only a limited number of iMacs affected is that there are only a limited number of iMacs in use.

|as "limited" as the problem MIGHT be, it's still very very bad. Their platform is a closed platform, in which they control the hardware and software, so there should be no such issues. Especially with their pompous advertising.
It's not like the PC world, where you can buy any part and mix and match thousands, and have the ability to buy any version of Windows X to put on it...I love PC/Windows freedom. Although I am sure some will deny that such a thing exists on the MS/Windows side ;)

|Well, I am waiting for Leopard to buy an iMac, but my Vista machine has been running for about 6 months now without a crash... but, all I do is use IE, Media Player, Picasa and Photoshop.
The new iMacs are crashing even running just the preinstalled apps... that's weak... Still, I hope they fix it up... I like their iMovie app and want a real iMac to hook up to my Touch...
And no, I don't care that I am spending twice as much to do this as on a PC... Macs are cool and trendy... haven't you seen the adds?

Where are you buying your PC's from? Sure you can get a barebones PC for very cheap, but it will come no where near the specs of an iMac.
The notebooks are very competitively priced, again, if you do an apples to apples comparison. Twice the cost, no.
