Apple Patches 20 Tiger Security Flaws
By Nate Mook | Published August 16, 2005, 11:26 AM
Apple released its monthly security update late Monday, comprised of a whopping 34 patches for a variety of security vulnerabilities across its server and client operating systems. Many of the flaws stem from third party utilities that are bundled with Mac OS X, including Apache and MySQL.
The 2005-007 Security Update includes 20 fixes specifically for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Among them, Apple has corrected a problem in which Mail loaded remote images despite a user's preference, and two vulnerabilities in the Safari Web browser. The update weighs in at around 17MB and is available via Apple Downloads and through Software Update.
Thought Apple stop making computers, and switched to the music biz, when their marketshare for desktop systems dropped well below 3%.

|This is a sign that Apple hired Microsoft programmers to work on Tiger.

|Apple is pretty good at making things, and catching holes before someone tries to squeeze through them. Their update system also works better than Microsoft's(most people I know with Macs have theirs up to date), so....why complain?
For the record, until last week I hadn't patched my windows in 8 months. When I checked on Microsoft Update, there was a whole 1 security update, and it was for Outlook Express, which I don't even use.
Guess MS isn't making stuff for win2k?

|Two things. First ever hear of something called Automatic updates? Second 2000 is not supported mainstream anymore get with reality.

|For an OS that doesn't receive the incessant hacker attention that Windows does, this is a complete embarrassment. Makes you wonder what the heck else is wrong with it. If only Apple users had lived in P.T. Barnum's day.

|Or it could make all the more impressive that Apple found security problems before exploits were created (ala XP? :P)

Or could it be that they have less then 3% of the market? Hell if they had 30% they would have problems. This is just a sign of things to come (and it is not good for apple)

|Wow... 20.
To be fair, the OS was just released. Of course there are flaws that will surface right away.

|Hey, THEY'RE PATCHING THE ISSUES, would you rather them not provide updates and pretend they didn't exist?
BTW I use strictly MS I am not bashing, but if I used Mac I personally would rather have 20 issues fixed than apple pretend like there was no problem.

|No joke, where are all the MS patch haters now? Oh but Apple, Unix and Linux don't need patches because they kick so much a$$. Give me a break.

|A few of my friends (very few) whom have a mac hid under the desk today when they saw me!!! I wounder why???
O well I guess Apple just like firefox is not as secure as they say. True they are fixing the problem, but they should never have said that they were secure in the first place. When it was not true.
