Apple Recalls MacBook Pro Batteries

By the Betanews Staff | Published July 31, 2006, 12:14 PM

Apple has issued a worldwide recall for a number of batteries that shipped in the 15-inch MacBook Pro notebooks between February and May. The company will send out a new battery to customers who complete a request form.

According to Apple, it "recently discovered that some 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries supplied to Apple do not meet our high standards for battery performance." The company says the batteries do not pose a safety risk. MacBook Pro owners can find out if they are affected via Apple's Web site; exchanges can only be requested online and not at the company's retail stores.

Well, I submitted my request for a replacement on Monday (July 31st) and just received the new battery today (Thursday).

That's pretty impressive!!

I think they are doing a "preemptive strike" on the quality control of the batteries comming from ASIA.

Of course it's a preemptive strike. Apple's laptops are known to overheat, now add an exploding battery to the mix. BOOM!!! lol

1) Kudos to BetaNews for putting this announcement up
2) Kudos to Apple - I've just submitted my request.

I would be interested to know exactly what was wrong with the existing batteries.

They're going to sell them to Dell. They heard Dell is in the market for sub-standard batteries... ;)
