Apple Upgrades MacBook Pros

By Ed Oswald | Published June 5, 2007, 10:54 AM

Apple updated its MacBook Pro line of laptops Tuesday, giving the computers slightly faster processors, more memory, and better graphics capabilities across the board.

The actual feature set of the MacBook Pro has not changed, and it still includes the 15 and 17-inch models with built in iSight, MagSafe Power Adapter, and 802.11 capabilities.

However, all models now come standard with 2GB of RAM, and include the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT as well. Consumers can select up to 4GB as a build-to-order option.

Intel's new Core 2 Duos based on its "Santa Rosa architecture" also are included at speeds of 2.2 and 2.4GHz for the 15-inch model and 2.4Ghz for the 17-inch.

The 17-inch models now have the option to be upgradeable to a higher resolution display capable of 1920x1000 resolution. 15-inch models come with a new LED-backlight display, which is now mercury free, the company said.

Consumers also receive more hard drive space as part of the refresh, with 120GB in the low-end model and 160GB for all others. Build-to-order options make it possible to upgrade to a 250GB hard drive.

Sounds pretty good. Hell, the video card alone is great by itself.

The resolution is 1920x1200, not 1920x1000.

Did they replace the screen with one that'll actually produce over 16 million colors, or are they just not going to lie about it this time around?

are you talking about the 6-bit and 8-bit screens? Something about people claiming that 6-bit supports 16mill colors, or something?

There's always something keeping me from buying a MacBook Pro. Now it's because I'll wait for the forthcoming OSX upgrade. Yes it's expensive, but there's always a price for luxury.

All this coming from a PC/Windows fanboy.

i'm waiting for the NAND caching I was promised by the intel PR spinsters. 8 hours of battery life would be the kind of awesome dreams are made of. ROAD TRIP!

i withdraw my previous assertion, and replace it with "when will we have support for caching using usb or SD"?

Though I'm sure you'll just dismiss this as a 'PC Fanboy comment'

Maybe you should look at some of those laptops with SLI dual videocards, with dual harddrives, same Core 2 chips, for cheaper.

That's not a laptop at that point anymore. Same goes for any 17inch lappy. They are just too big to be portable. Try just getting it open on a plane!!

15inch macbook pro. Perfect size. Perfect lappy.
