Australians See Xbox 360 Price Drop

By the Betanews Staff | Published August 15, 2007, 10:41 AM

A week after the United States and Canada saw the Xbox 360's price tag slashed to better compete with the PS3 and Nintendo Wii, Australian gamers can buy Microsoft's console for the same price as a Wii. Starting today, the Xbox 360 Core will run A$399.95, down from A$429.95. The Pro model has been lowered from A$649.95 to A$579.95.

By comparison, in Australia the PS3 runs A$1000. Xbox 360 Pro units sold down under will also soon sport the HDMI connection that United States buyers are starting to see. Microsoft plans to bring the new Elite and Halo 3 Special Edition models to Australia as well, but the company did not specify a timeframe for availability.

Excellent. Anything to drive Steve into a frenzy. He'll be here spouting hate in no time.

He's a very unhappy person and it shows. He figured he would buy a gaming system and an HD movie player in an all in one package, and has now figured out Sony isn't doing so good.

The two things that could ruin his "massive" $599US investment are the 360 / Wii and HD-DVD. I'll give you an HD-A2 and a 360 for free just to shut him up.

Where's MinuteMaid? This is just strange.

They're (or should I say he) is working on a way to twist this into 'the PS3 is better'.

PS3's are cheap sort of :) I've picked up two of them in the landfill for $5 each (I pickup electronics for parts). They both don't work and haven't had a chance yet to look at why, so who knows.
I'm not sure that Nintendo doesn't care about the price drop. They are certainly doing a lot better then they expected (at least that's my guess). So I think they might care just a little bit.

Right now (just guessing) I'm figuring for gamers having a pc, xbox 360 and Wii is the way to go.

Price cuts are to be expected, im sure Sony will not be too thrilled at the news, and I don't think Nintendo give a monkeys.

Great news for the folks down under.
