Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment plans to continue its delivery of dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray movies early next year with the release of 4 new titles on January 23. The studio previously announced plans to ship its first 50GB Blu-ray titles on November 21 - just after the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3.
"Casanova," "Chicago," "The Guardian" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" will debut after the holidays at a cost of $34.99 USD each. Because they utilize Blu-ray's full storage capacity, Buena Vista says the titles will contain a host of special features, including alternate endings, making of featurettes, as well as improved menus and Web connectivity for connecting to live events held by the studio.
There already filling up 50gb's? What kind of compression are they using? Are they using any?
Or are they just filling up the disc's with garbage so they can say it's 50gb's.

|They're not using any audio compression. The audio on dual layer Blu-Ray discs is 24-bit 96KHz PCM audio. The video on the other hand is compressed with either MPEG 2 or VC 1.

Exactly right, they use no compression on audio to justify the space they have, and use old compression tools, and on top of that the rest of the space is used on bonus content , not the movie itself.

|Funny thing is, is that if it were HD-DVD relasing 50GB disks with uncompressed audio and Blu-Ray compressing audio, the same people here would be praising the quality of the uncompressed audio on HD-DVD over the crappy compressed audio on Blu-Ray!!

|LOL.. chicago.. need that in HD or I will surely die.

|I wouldn't mind this so much if the extra space was being used for increased definition of the movie, but its all just special features. Not to mention these titles suck. Now if it was a Sci Fi movie like Star Wars III, then I think they'd have something.

|I agree.
I think they'd sell just as many titles (if not more) if they just did away with half (if not most) of the extra features and charge $5-10 less per title.
But.. with good titles, not this crap.

|thank's but you can keep those sh...tty titles (which are sh...tty no matter on what HD medium they are being released) to yourself.
apart from maybe Hitchhiker's Guide (which not going to make me buy the device either) ...

|For now, an exercise in complete futility.
