Buy More Vista Licenses, Save 10%
By Nate Mook | Published March 27, 2007, 5:27 PM
Microsoft has launched the appropriately named Windows Vista Additional License program, which will enable customers to save a bit of money if they want to install Windows Vista on multiple computers. Before, users had to purchase a completely new copy of Vista; now, they can just buy a license key online and save 10 percent.
"Remember, not properly activating Windows Vista will lead to it running in reduced functionality mode, so this new program is a handy way to avoid that situation. With it, customers can use their original Windows Vista media for installation and activate each installation using the newly purchased licenses," explained Vista product manager Nick White. The program is now available in the United States and Europe.
Means absolutely nothing...OEM pricing will beat the 10% by a country mile.
Which overpaid Einstein(s) came up with that?
The same ones that lied about the 20 million Vista February sales likely.....

|10% WOW..
Considering Microsoft are saving on:
Packaging
Media
Distribution
Middle-Man cuts
This is pathetic. If Microsoft were serious about combating piracy, you should be able to download the ISO of Vista, and buy the key for 50% of the retail price. Microsoft would still make money (and likely more money than retail, as the middleman cuts in retail are big).
This is yet another example of Microsoft giving consumers a poor deal (like the 360 Elite relaunch).

|I am not sure what the big deal about the price of Vista is. It costs as much or near the price, as the new OS X upgrade will cost.
Your getting just about the same level of upgrade features ( dvd burner, movie maker, cleaner interface, improved security, small interesting little features ).
People complain that the Vista Ultimate is $250 for the full version. Why is this an argument, who doesn't have Windows XP, and why wouldn't you save money and get the upgrade edition. Let alone the fact why are you not even getting that version, unless you need the Media Center features/movie & dvd maker/ and poker game here is no reason for the extra $50 instead of the Bus edition.
Vista is costs as much as Windows XP given inflation and perhaps a general market place markup. Lets face it, Vista is worth $200 and thats what it is, infact its less then that if you get the Prem version.

|I see your point, but I could care less what OS X costs. I tried it for a week and was apparently the only person on the planet who wasn't impressed with it. It uses a lot of substandard crap for video editing, stuff that Windows users left behind years ago or never used. Those apple commercials with the slacker guy are so true — if you want a computer to futz and "play" with endlessly — translation: never get anything done on — get a mac.
While you can get full OEM versions of Vista (the Business version is the best of the three I've bought so far), Vista does cost more in part because the USDollar has been weakened by the repup party who ran the economy into the ground for six years now with their war and deficits. Joey (above) nails it on piracy. Microsoft just seems to encourage more piracy year after year. WGA and all the other anti-piracy measures are for the kiddies and parents.

Anyway, having purchased Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate versions of Vista, get the Business version. It's a lot better than Home Premium, and you don't have that "ripped off" feeling that comes with Ultimate.

|Keep in mind that the only reason the 10% discount exists is probably because you don't get any physical media.

|Wow, 10%. I can't wait to go out and buy 10 more licenses so that the last one is free. Big whup. How about a 75 or 90% discount?

|I like Microsoft and i liked their idea that hey everybody seal software, let them use our operating system to do it so they can later program for us philosophy.
That philosophy is slipping, and its not their fault, the RIAA are in their a** all the time and everyy software company, so they have to make an anti pirate thing like the reduced functionality mode. its like Catch 22. You say go apple?? well first of all its even more anti pirate then Windows, its safer? how? its not the operating system thats safer its that it has a lower user base then Windows, people dont hack it, in fact in pcworld or pc magazine, or i think even betanews they made a 30 day test in jan, where they uncovered a security hole for everyday of january. and they found 30. So up your's steve jobs atleast Gates has the world biggest charity.
Go linux cause its free? Guess what not anymore:(
But yah after all i said i think vista for now is as crappy as it can be, and i totally agree with what program 86 said, save 100% by not buying the piece of crap:)

Another thing that would help your credibility would be to base your arguments on facts, not fiction. Keep trying, I'm sure you'll get there before you turn 15.

|keep in mind that english isn't everyones 1st language. I can't believe how many people can not speak it in the US, let alone anywhere else...
10% is better than nothing in any case...a decent scenario of this is if you are buying a computer and want vista premium over vista business or basic...Or you bought a computer in the summer. That is, if you can't see an alternative to windows....

|Yeah, there are security holes in OSX but they're not exploited like they are in windows. I've been a PC user since Win3.1 and DOS and I have to say that I haven't had as many issues with my Macs that I have used since 10.0 and the OS has performed a lot better since then. I'm just saying this because I have experience with both OSs.
BTW, Linux is still free and Gates only donates to charity so he doesn't have to pay taxes. But I do agree with you that you can save money by not buying Vista.
