CBS to Sell News Clips via the Web

By Nate Mook | Published July 14, 2006, 12:55 PM

CBS News has partnered with Amazon.com and CustomFlix to sell full-length reports and segments from "CBS Evening News," "60 Minutes" and documentaries that have aired since 2000. Customers will be able to create a custom DVD of clips they choose totaling up to 90 minutes.

Sometime down the road, CBS News expects to extend the footage it offers back to 1950, with news reports from Douglas Edwards and Walter Cronkite. CBS' vast archive of news footage has never before been shown to the public, and available clips could eventually include coverage of historic events, the network said. Outtakes, however, will not be available for purchase through the program.

You guys are all nuts. Shows like 60 Minutes have been doing an incredible job of reporting on important issues and people for decades. Sure there have been the occasional dillemas with thier reporting but with that said you would be hard pressed to find anything near it's level of quality. What's so wrong with someone wanting to see an interesting report from years past? HBO sells thier made for TV movies and documentaries and none of you have complained. Very simple...don't buy it if you're not interested. There are plenty of people who would like another shot at many of these programs.

I'm pretty much thinking that you "kids" don't watch any news and think the world revolves around tech blogs and an Xbox.

From here: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7004219868

“Customers will be able to put up to 10 segments or 90 minutes of video they chose on a custom-made DVD for $24.95.”

This is an obvious attempt by CBS to exploit those who don't have a life and are willing to part with their money for useless trivia.

CBS is clearly out of line here. Once an item is released, just like a artist song, no further charges ought to be levied. In the case of CBC, they already got their bacon from advertizing. In the case of a artist song, they already got their bacon from the sale of records, tours, and $$ from the studio.

CBS has been in decline for a number of years, and this puts them into a further negative focus.

I still don't think any kinda tv should cost me anything. i already pay for cable which in turns pay for my local channels regardless of what they say. and then i have to watch commercials. So they can kiss my *#@ if they think i wanna pay for anything else. And since it's not even a real tv show, but a news show. Please like i wanna pay for that.

Oh, boy. CBS News. A proud legacy of bias and opinionated journalism now with a cover charge!

No thanks.

NBC lets you watch the most recent week worth of NBC Nightly News for free!

Granted it doesn't go back 6 years but I don't know many people who are going to watch newscasts from years ago.

If you have the internet you already have all the news you want, free. Most people I assume already have televisions as well. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want to pay to download low quality "clips" of the news. Most news sites I've been to already do that for free.
