CES 2009 to keep rocking on, regardless of the economy

NEW YORK, NY -- At a press event this evening, officials promised that, despite the gloomy economy, CES 2009 will continue to mix business with pleasure, with events ranging from a new green computing area to a live performance by Diana Ross.

Recent research by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) shows that 64% of the public is now interested in recyclable products, 62% want energy efficiency, and 47% are on the lookout for recycled materials.

Accordingly, CES in Las Vegas will feature an area focusing on green computing, and the CEA - the organization behind CES -- will also host a "green" trade show in New York this February. In addition, the CEA is looking at working with government leaders on a nationwide green initiative after the presidential inauguration in January, said Gary Shapiro, the CEA's president and CEO.

On a lighter note, Sony will host actual airings of the "Jeopardy" TV show in its booth at the Las Vegas trade show.

For its part, CES exhibitor Monster Cable will host Diana Ross at its big shindig for dealers and press, held each year during CES.

Why should the gadget community be presented as not advancing?

I will Survive? There has been no indication of any significant slowdown in electronic gadget, home or personal entertainment products.

In fact, in many respects, this is a hot period in new technology introductions.

CES should be a 'happenin'' affair this year, regardless of what the larger economy is doing.

So the convention theme this year is "I Will Survive"?

That would be Gloria Gaynor you're thinking of.

Though I have to admit, "Surrender" did cross my mind.
