CherryOS to Go Open Source

By Ed Oswald | Published April 7, 2005, 9:17 AM

After initially announcing that its product was put on hold indefinitely, the makers of CherryOS posted a note Wednesday saying that, "Due to Overwhelming Demand, CherryOS Open Source Project, Launches 5.1.2005." CherryOS is a Mac emulator for PCs that allows the user to run Mac OS X in a Windows environment.

As reported last month by BetaNews, CherryOS caused a stir after the programmers of the open source Mac emulator PearPC claimed the code behind the program was stolen. Public scrutiny, as well as tests by BetaNews, seemed to confirm PearPC's suspicions, although Arben Kryeziu, creator of CherryOS, has denied any similarity.

apparently they not only ripped off PearPC
but their other commercial software "VX30" has traces of MPlayer, XVid, and more open-source software licensed under the GPL.

I hate to say... companies like this should
be forced to pay the PearPC for damages. So, you
should stay far away from this software. If you
want to run a Mac X OS, buy a Apple PC. The MAC
mini is around $700 with monitor, keyboard and
mouse.

He basically got busted for copyright infringement on the GPL'd code from PearPC. Even now, he is still denying it, but changes to a Open Source licence.

What are the bets that any changes he has made will not be available, or some crafty linking to closed source DLL's etc..

The guy is a scammer, avoid CherryOS, get the real deal PearPC.. (or a Mac)
