It is an easy strategy to call people 'Retards' or 'Commies' as an attempt to denigrate them. Facts are, as an earlier commentator stated, you don't become the leader of China by being a fool. Nor do you maintain the position of CEO of Microsoft through idiocy or extreme political partisanship. I don't live in the US, but did visit Seattle recently and liked it and the people I met there. I hope the meeting in Seattle works to bring about better dealings and understanding between the USA and China and that the leader of China recognises Americans as decent people living in a pleasant place. Facts are, whatever your views, the rest of the world is out there and if it is possible to find better ways of cooperating and dealing with each other, then we should.

I don't hate China, nor do I hate Communists even if I disagree with their philosophies. If I (or you) won't talk with them (or others we disagree with) the world will never improve. Howard Schultz is a fine man and he runs a fine company which takes care of it's employees with good wages and benefits and takes care of it's neighborhoods both by opening stores in areas that no one else dreamed of putting anything nice and by making huge unpublicized chariatble donations through his personal foundation. He's featured tonight on CNBC's new show American Made at 8pm and he will be featured in a segment of CBS 60 Minutes later this month. I think if you actually did a little research you would find that he is what's good about America.

In where I live, Starbucks generously participates in charitable deeds - more than their competitors do. In fact, more than most companies do. And consistently so.

And no, I don't live in the US.

Ok.. there are a lot of things good about America. If Starbucks weren't trying to get everyone who buys their product addicted to caffeine, by making it way too strong, I might agree with you. I really like strong coffee, but even for me their stuff is undrinkable.

Starbucks primarily sells a European style of coffee that has been serving the world well for generations. Just because you were raised on Folgers doesn't make you an expert in coffee. One of the neat things about good coffee is that you can actually put more water in it to suit your taste. Starbucks is all about service. Ask them to water down your coffee and they will happily do so. Try drinking an Americano which is a shot or more of espresso with hot water. Another thing, the body of the coffee usually has little to do with the caffeine content. The truth is, the darker you roast a bean, the less caffeine it contains.

No one has really commented on how significant this really is. Microsoft/Gates has come to the conclusion that all the sanctions and rules and laws and copyrights and court cases are worth no more then the paper they are written on. Gates has bypassed the whole system and is going directly to the source of a communist government to solve a problem. It will be very interesting to see what comes out of this over time.
