EA and Take-Two merger still incomplete

By Tim Conneally | Published July 9, 2008, 11:50 AM

Despite earlier complaints from EA that the FTC was being "unnecessarily broad" in its requests for more information about the merger, yesterday it announced it had complied.

The US Federal Trade Commission now has until August 21 to complete its investigation of the proposed merger between Electronic Arts and takeover candidate Take-Two Interactive, maker of Grand Theft Auto IV. In an SEC regulatory filing, EA said it would not proceed with the acquisition before that date.

The $2 billion takeover offer, which is still on the table until July 18, was received coldly by shareholders and investors. The company previously urged its shareholders to take no action in response to EA's offer, and its position remains largely unchanged.

In the midst of the affair, sales of GTA4 reportedly surpassed first-week records set by Microsoft's Halo 3.

hopefully it stays incomplete. I still look back at what they did to Westwood Studios wonder how good C&C would be if they were still around. EA simply ruins games. Madden what a joke same game different players.

This just proves how illiterate and foul EA is. If your offer hasn't been accepted by now forget it and move on. The gaming world is much happier seeing you suffer at your own hands forcing T2's impressive game lineup towards the mouth of a toilet isn't really an option the rest of us should be looking at.
Hellcat i agree with you i have played BF BC and thought the dialoge wasn't well put together; the story wasn't fluid.
Someone answer me this in what other game (like Bad Company) do you die and the round doesn't reset like it does in BC. IN BC your target's health doesn't reset when you die.

I really hope this merger doesn't go through and if it does I hope all the good talented developers from T2 just jump ship and make their own company. T2 is doing fine without EA, plus 2K sports will be gone if this merger goes through. Also if this merger goes through we'll see GTA5 and 6 by the year 2011 and they'll make 6 into a stupid wanna be comedy that isn't funny like they did with Battlefield Bad Company. T2 should be buying other companies not being bought, they could become one of the great game companies if they don't get bought out by EA because if that happens their creativity will be sucked from them.
