RSSEarthLink to Offer TiVo DVRs with DSL

TiVo and EarthLink said Tuesday that they would begin offering a package deal where a consumer could purchase a stand-alone DVR unit and combine it with Internet or phone services through the ISP. Earthlink would be responsible for the marketing of the deal, which would begin later this year.
"This combined offering not only provides customers the simplicity and value of a bundle, but also provides seamless access to the growing portfolio of content and services that are being delivered via the Internet, directly to the living room," said EarthLink consumer products chief Gary Sonnier. Pricing for the offering, as well as financial terms of the deal, were not disclosed.
LOL Tivo out of business in a few years? Maybe in fantasy-land.

Nobody wants or needs a stand alone DVR anymore. Tivo should get used to the fact they will be out of business in a couple years.
They've resorted to giving them away since they can't sell them.

TiVo isn't going anywhere. TiVo's new Series3 is HD and has two CableCARD slots and they are also making a deal with ComCast to make a custom TiVo for them. There is no way that the POS Motorola DVRs are going to put TiVo out of biz. When people hit the pause button on their DVR they want it to happen instantly not 5 secs latter. hahaha.
I bet you will see TiVo in the ipTV biz soon too. I would be willing to bet that this deal with EarthLink develops into something bigger.

The TiVo series 3 is the first cable box available at retail too. Maybe the Motorola DVRs will start to disappear once the FCC mandate stating Cable Card must be the sole method of decrypting cable TV signals takes effect in July 2007.
