European Nokia Phones to Get Windows Live

By Ed Oswald | Published August 23, 2007, 2:18 PM

Nokia and Microsoft said late Wednesday that they had partnered to bring the Redmond company's suite of Windows Live services to Nokia devices.

Those using compatible S60 devices will be able to download the specially customized application that provides access to Hotmail, Messenger, Contacts, and Spaces. Next year, compatible Series 40 phones begin shipping with Windows Live included.

Nokia N73, N80 Internet Edition, N95, N76 and the N93i customers in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, U.K., Sweden, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will be able to download the application from the 'Download!' feature of their phones.

Microsoft has so far declined to specify when it planned to bring the application to the US, if at all. The two companies had already partnered to bring Windows Live Search to Nokia Nseries and S60 phones last September.

"The availability of Windows Live services for Nokia's devices demonstrates our commitment to delivering great mobile experiences and extending people's online lives -- taking them from the PC to the device," Microsoft online business chief Steve Berkowitz said.

Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, although the two sides will share revenues from the partnership and it will last at least one year. At first the application will be offered for free, although there are plans to eventually charge a small fee for use of the application.

I think the title is incorrect. These Nokia devices are getting Windows Live (the applications), not Windows Mobile (the OS).

Yeah, I honestly don't know how a tech-centric site could get windows mobile confused with windows live. Nokia's will continue to run Symbian based OSes, No where have I read that they'll be running the Windows Mobile OS.

Honest typo. Guess that what happens when you're talking about Windows Mobile with somebody the same time you're writing a story about Windows LIVE. :)

Or possible because you're relying on Windows to keep it all straight instead of linux or OS X:D
