Google said Wednesday it had updated its Maps service in more than 30 major United States cities to include real-time traffic information. A new "Traffic" button joins the Map, Satellite and Hybrid options already available, overlaying road conditions with green, yellow and red colors.
"If your route shows red, you're looking at a stop-and-go commute; yellow, you could be a little late for dinner; green, you've got smooth sailing," explained Google software engineer David Wang. Supported cities include New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington DC among others.
Traffic info is available to the PDA version of Google Maps and MS Live Search. Some ppl claim they are very helpful

|True...Mapquest sux!

|I wonder what feed they are using for their sources? ...the DOT cameras in those areas that have them?
In any event, what has been pointed out below is all too frequently the case...
By the time I learn the information, I am usually more aware of the details than they are, as I am stuck in it.
And I am not about to pay more for another radio or some data feed to my car!

|I cant imagine how accurate this could be. Real time is probably 15-20 min too late.

|Nice idea except that (a) by the time I need this, I'm probably stuck in the traffic jam or (b) by the time I'm driving, the jam is already cleared or (c) based on my experience with real-time traffic info via XM superimposed on my GPS, it's only correct 50% of the time, making it mostly useless anyway.

|I hereby nominate Google for President!!!
And as always, have a BUY recommend for its stock.
