Google Recruiting Top Chefs

By Nate Mook | Published August 5, 2005, 11:28 AM

As one of the fastest growing companies in Silicon Valley, Google makes a big effort to keep its employees happy and working around the clock. Amenities offered by Google include dry cleaning, car wash, gym time and free meals. And with ever more mouths to feed, Google is seeking two new executive chefs to join its ranks.

"The executive chefs will oversee the development and continual refinement of an eclectic menu capable of suiting every Googler palate, from vegan entrees to pad thai, grilled burgers, and wood-fired pizza – all while using organic ingredients whenever possible," Google says.

Top candidates will be selected to participate in a cook-off, where a team of Google employees will vote on their favorites. The two winners will earn a place at the search company, whipping together a variety of meals and burning through over 55 gallons of olive oil per week.

Some of the delicacies on the menu of just one of Google's five cafes include Ahi Tuna and Avocado Poke, Pollo en Huerto, Seared Day Boat Scallops in Green Coconut Curry Sauce, and Red Velvet Cake with Bright White Frosting.

"These two chefs will play an important role in managing the company's growing appetites," said Google founder Sergey Brin. "We welcome all culinary engineers to try out for our exceptional team."

Bah! The whole lot will crumble under the weight of its own pretentiousness one day.
(mind you it makes a reasonable spell checker for big words like pretentiousness.)

Google needs to get off their @$$ and do something.

Give us Google IM, or Google OS. I'm tired of this goofy crap like Google Earth, and the fact that Gmail is still beta.

Turd lickers.

You know why Google wants good chefs? so they can keep your @$$ there longer hours. You have no excuse to go pick up your kids because they are at Google's day care. You don't need to leave work for a dentist appointment because there is an onsite dentist.....

That stuff sucks. The last thing I want to do is be at work all my life.

Google.....pull your head out of the U.S. Government's butt and do some work.

This is all rather wonderful, but what is Google doing to justify its nosebleed stock price?

This "happy employee" plan works for most companies for a while. But even IBM's beanbag chair, and open forums ideas we're eventually considers not "cost effective", yet IMB is still largely known.

I wonder if google will be able to keep up the pace. Google has done many things for PCs in the last few years that amazed me.

Good luck google.

what this article doesn't tell you is that their employees work a LOT. All those perks are just subterfuge to keep their employees on the google campus and working more.

Although Comcast is certainly America's largest broadband provider, at least for PCs, in most regards, today's deal with GE may not impact the Internet at all.
