Guess the Windows Vista Launch Date

By the Betanews Staff | Published December 29, 2005, 12:00 PM

Think you can guess the date Windows Vista will officially debut next year? If so, you can win an all-expenses-paid trip to the launch event, or one of nine Xbox 360 consoles. The contest is being held as part of Microsoft Europe's new Beta Experience program, which is designed to keep users up to date with Vista and Office 12 news.

"As a member of the Beta Experience, you are one of the first to be informed of the new product features, long before the final version is released to the market," Microsoft says. Those 18 years of age and residing in Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom may enter.

Hi,
I think that windows vista is already ready to get in the market.Like any of the other windows they send it to the market any time.
Bill gates is working now in the vista updates and security patchs and all the other crap that will follow another windows.
Why wait for a Vista when you already have a Double vista Performance OS in Suse Linux 64bit.

The day after Thanksgiving 2006. The date will stick-- no matter what they need to remove to get it out to us then. If for some unforeseeable reason this date is missed, then don't count on it until the back to school period. Otherwise, this'll also be the time when the first pack / se version will come out.

You never release a new show on Superbowl sunday. you never launch software on the bigest retail shopping day of the year.. that would be suicide. Women are the major shoppers, and they don't buy software.. You want to release software on a day that doesnn't compete with every other retailer, if there is one date it WONT fall on, this is it.

BTW, its Nov 24th 2006. 364 OTHER days will happen, but I can guarantee it won't be that one.

How nice of microsoft, they already have the date figured out. Thats means that it will be released even if they find security holes the day before launch. Just like all there other OS's full of bugs and security holes. Thanks Microsoft.

Score: 0

Hence the reason for Windows Update. With how many millions of code, you don't expect to get one single bug from software/OS?

You must be dreaming.

With all the heckling and bashing you do, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and work for Microsoft, if you think you can do a better job.

As the most OS leader, your OS will be attacked more frequently. If you were making a virus or trying to find an exploit in software, wouldn't you go with the OS that most everyone uses? I know I would. I'm not saying Windows doesn't have flaws, but I doubt all the hackers/crackers out there are working on that next big OS/X virus.

By the way. It's "Their OS's" not "There OS's" =D

You are all wrong... to commemorate the release of Windows 95, they will make it the same date of that launch, August 11, 2006.

So there!

That's funny... I attended the launch event for Windows 95 in Seattle... on August 24, 1995. It was also the day I got my new car (didn't know until I returned to Ohio) and had to miss fall preview at my high school at the time.

man, you got a car when win95 went out? One personal question. Wasn't all the windows on your car broken when you sat in? =)

Terrorists need Windows Vista in order to communicate with each other. They would use Linux, but there are no terrorist cell members that know how to fix the bugs! With Microsoft, they can at least be warned of the critical security updates needed to keep running.

As I recall it Kuwait was doing diagonal drilling at their side of the Iraq border so they could tap into oil supplies which lay under Iraq, not Kuwait.

Iraq told them to leave it off, and they laughed in their face. Knowing American interests in this area, they spoke with US representatives behind the scenes, and said that if Kuwait kept doing this they would have to take military action. The US representatives said that was fine with them as they had no beef with a sovereign nation defending its resources.

Once the invasion kicked off the US, judging world reactions promptly changed its mind, and that was that.

And Vista's supposed to be coming out next year when they've done hardly any work on it (since a lot of time went on SP2 and other projects) for the last two years? Jeez. They should just change the XP splash screen on the next Windows Update and charge everyone anyway... ;-)
