HP to Offer iPod+HP Shuffles

By Ed Oswald | Published July 1, 2005, 10:56 AM

Hewlett-Packard announced on Friday that it would sell its own branded iPod Shuffle beginning immediately. The addition of the Shuffle now means HP carries the entire line of iPods from Apple under its own iPod+HP brand. The low-cost Flash-based iPods will be available through HP's own sales channels including RadioShack, Sears and Wal-Mart.

HP's iPod pricing will be identical to the current pricing from Apple, with the 512MB Shuffle retailing for $99 USD and the 1GB for $129 USD. HP had announced earlier in the year that it was considering carrying the iPod Photo; however, with the changes in Apple's lineup the company will now carry branded color iPods instead.

HP still does not learn MAKE YOUR OWN mp3 player. The HPiPOD sucks.

Is there any difference between the Apple iPod and the HP iPod? Does it say HP on the device? Or is it just HP selling Apple iPods?

It says HP on the outside, but it's apple Ipod on the inside. There is no HP customization other than trying to get you to register with HP, which is easily ignored.

This is, once again, what HP must mean by "Invent" to use other company's innovations.

But do you really blame HP for cashing in on the iPod economy? It also opens up retail channels to Apple (RadioShack, Sears, Wal-Mart) that it may not otherwise have.

While yeah, I agree that it's counterintuitive to their whole company premise, I does make good business sense...

Just thought I should point out.. while yes it does have an HP logo on the back of the ipod.. It still has the apple logo also

So really the only difference is it has an additional logo on the back

(also the box says iPod+HP, the ipod is formatted for windows, the manual is for windows, the cd comes with windows itunes, and HP offers support for windows users.. but it can easily work with a mac)

You actually get a much better warranty. HP's warranty also covers the battery for an entire year, whereas Apple's only does so for 90 days.
