'Halo 3' Sells 1 Million Copies Before Release

By the Betanews Staff | Published August 9, 2007, 10:19 AM

Microsoft said Thursday that "Halo 3" has become the fastest selling pre-ordered game in history, with over 1 million copies already paid for by customers. Microsoft hopes to further that number by launching a number of Halo ad campaigns with Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, Pontiac, Comcast and Burger King.

"Halo 3" officially goes on sale September 25, and retailers expect to be fully sold out by the time the game arrives at stores. Microsoft says this is the first time a game has created as much buzz as a blockbuster movie, and Mountain Dew is even creating a new drink -- called "Game Fuel" -- that is Halo-themed. The game will also be featured in television commercials from Pepsi and Pontiac.

In other news, a game actually worth playing, and breaking new ground...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6929484.stm

"Sat down in front of a playable level it is immediately clear that Killzone 2 will be one of the most cinematic and immersive games ever produced on a console.

The raw processing power of the PlayStation 3 has been harnessed to create a level of detail seen only in a handful of games on high-end PCs.

The dynamic lighting, animation, high-definition environments and details, such as plaster flying off walls and pillars caught in crossfire, create a sense of place and reality that takes games to a new level of realism."

Halo 3 has had pretty bad press so far, from industry, and fans. It bring nothing new, it's basically Halo2, with some spruced up graphics (not even upto Gears Of War standard).

Killzone 2 is stunning everyone that plays it. Hey it even surpassed the target render from E3 2005.

Give it up there are other companies in the world besides Sony that make good games. The again you get paid by them so you will never admit that.

I guess you won't be enjoying on your home system since we have all seen pictures of that already. No center speaker what a joke not to mention other junk pieces in the setup.

Yawn, are they still milking the boring Halo franchise...

THIS IS NOT NEWS, THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE.

Either Betanews are stupid, or in Microsoft's pocket.

I'm suprised however they got that many pre-orders, most people were underwhelmed by the beta.

The fact this press release comes from Microsoft, means it's likely to be total BS..

Hm I would beg to differ, if its the fastest selling game in history, that would be news.

I cannot figure for the life of me why you continue to come on these topics about MS when nothing you have to offer has anything to do with the topic.

You only come on here to complain that Betanews is biased towards your love for Sony and never offer anything but trolls.

uh its MS distributing the product to the various retailers so of course they are going to know how many pre-orders, sony did this with ps3 stating they sold such and such but I guess they are right because sony is always right.

"I'm suprised however they got that many pre-orders, most people were underwhelmed by the beta."

ROFL!!! Yah and people bash on Gears of War and several other top games all the time. Guess that makes them bad games too? There is and always will be people bashing on a game no matter how good it is. I PROMISE you people will even bash on games like Call of Duty 4, which is clearly going to be a great game.

It's preorders, not orders.

Stores pre-order what they can, only very close to release, do they contact the distributer (not Microsoft) with how many needed. Some stores just have standard allocations.

This is MS PR bulls***, There is simply no way of knowing how many pre-orders there are.

Listen guys,

I have no desire to come here anymore. Wasting time listening to people spreading hate is getting so old and boring.

BetaNews obviously loves this kind of thing as Ed Oswald posted "maybe I'll keep you around for entertainment" pretty much says it all.

His "WARNING" post was completely full of s***. I can't stand it anymore. They love it when a story is filled with two people going back and forth hurling insults at each other that have nothing to do with the actual story.

I'm done.

It moves ahead much faster than console gaming, which is the reason for its' expensive nature.

didn't know that, i ebay's my xbox 3 months after i bought it and got my kids a gamecube instead then sold it and got a wii. i was thinking of getting another xbox to use for media center but went with hauppauge media mvp, i don't know how the xbox works but the media mvp so far has completely sucked

I am with you. I prefer it on the pad. I tried playing Halo on the PC and it just didn't feel right to me. In most cases I actually prefer the controller, but as I stated earlier I realize I am probably in the minority on this.

Although I must say that games like Quake 3 with all Rail mod is always gonna be better on KB/Mouse. That brings me to my next point. Did you guys hear about this coming to XBLA? I am curious to see how this game handles on a pad. Although if they don't allow some of the mods like freezetag, All Rail, etc. it may be a deal breaker. I actually still play this game to this day lol.

Xbox works amasing as media center. low power/noise, simple device, huge storage (as much as you willing to pay for, uses regular 3.5 drives). look into XBMC. rip any dvd disk (movie or game) onto your hard drive. you can even play a movie out of rar archive or ISO image straight up without unpacking over the network.

EDIT: i read about mythTV script for XBMC but never got to try it. if you do myth...
