Help Find CNET's James Kim and Family

By Scott M. Fulton, III | Published December 1, 2006, 10:23 AM

A member of the technology press community and his family have been missing since November 25, and they need your help in locating them and seeing them home safe.

James Kim is a CNET senior editor, and contributor to the Crave technology blog. For the Thanksgiving holiday, they left their home in Noe Valley, San Francisco on November 17, traveling by station wagon to Seattle. They were expected to return home on November 27, and were last seen in Portland, Oregon, on the early afternoon of November 25, where they had brunch with a family friend. Kim and his family were last seen driving a silver Saab station wagon with personalized California plates: DOESF

James was traveling with his wife Kati, and children Penelope, age 4, and Sabine, just 7 months old. Colleagues noted James and Kati missing on the morning of the 27th.

The San Francisco Police Dept. has posted a complete Missing Persons report here. If you have any information whatsoever that may lead to the Kims' whereabouts, you're urged to call Inspector Angela Martin of the SFPD Missing Persons Unit, at (415) 558-5508.

More photos of James and Kati can be found on CNET's Crave blog, where you can also leave your prayers and best wishes for their safe return.

The "DOE" on Kim's license plate refers to Doe Fine Goods, one of two apothecary boutiques the family owns. Doe is located on Lower Haight Street, specializing in unique toiletries, designer clothes for women, and baby accessories. The Kims also own Church Street Apothecary, which specializes in housewares, bath accessories, and gifts. James' aesthetic touch and technical acumen can be seen on their Web sites.

The San Francisco Chronicle this morning features a story including quotes from family members, and those who last spoke with the Kim family.

BetaNews extends its prayers and best wishes to the Kims, and will be sharing information among our friends in the technology press and with you, as we all prepare for the good news of their safe recovery.

They found the mother and kids and are in good condition. They're looking for the guy now who left to get help. I get a feeling this guy is turning on his cell phone every few hours to see if he gets signal. That means that in future cases such as this, a few mobile fake towers (mounted to unmanned drones) should be used to fish for that signal (not connected to any network in the middle of nowhere obviously). I'd pay $1 extra per year on my cell phone bill for such an emergency service.

Some of the postings here have plumbed new depths of banality. I just hope the family is found safe and well.

I am not familiar with his blog though I have a feeling I may have come across it. Regardless, I do pray that God will help them find their way back, safe & sound. I don't think we need to know them personally to feel the pain their families are going through right now. And it's just sad that there are people out there who are insensitive because it's not happening to them or they could care less about other people's sorrows.

I'm sure a lot of us have families here.

I didn't see the posts but I can't believe someone posted something ignorant about this story. It makes all of the other ones so insignificant.

Hopefully they are OK and return home soon.

I lost a hub-cap on my wheels, if anyone has seen it by the side of the road, can you please phone Inspector Frank Drebin of the SFPD Missing Hibcap Unit, at (019) 888-6666.

Must be a low news day, no no Anti-Sony stories to report...

That's not funny at all. This is more serious than any news about the "atrocities" (e.g. RIAA, DRM, Sony, etc.). If you were in the same shoes of this article's author, I doubt you'd like someone making a cheap shot such as yours.
