IE7 to Feature Customizable Search Box

By Nate Mook | Published July 29, 2005, 12:42 PM

The Beta 1 release of Internet Explorer 7 adds an integrated search box that enables users to directly search the Internet without having to load a third-party toolbar - similar to features offered in Firefox and Opera. But the current search options are restricted to just a few sites, prompting concern of favoritism.

Microsoft tells BetaNews, however, that IE7 will feature a fully configurable search bar in its final form and users can choose whatever search they prefer. "In Beta 1, it's limited to a group of popular search providers and inherits its default setting from the search-provider setting the user had chosen for AutoSearch in Internet Explorer 6," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "However, for the final release, this toolbar search box will be extensible for users to add any search provider they choose."

Hi everyone and Microsoft, I was hoping with all my heart that IE-7 was going to elimate Outlook Express, if anything combine them, I think it is imperative that Microsoft make it colorful, fun, and easy to use, with lots of jazzy features, like Incredimail does, also it should be linked with all Microsoft Products, also linked directly to your messenger, IE-7 needs to be full of fun and made to enjoy, please make this IE-7 and Hotmail easy and enjoyable...loyal Microsoft User...have a great week...I am retired military disabled veteran...

And again, this is why this is a beta, its not expected to be perfect just yet, submit feedback to MS on their newsgroups, I am sure the feedback will help them to improve the product.

Wow I can't believe it! A search box in the browser's toolbar. That is revolutionary, I can't wait for IE7!

Almost as revolutionary as firefox claiming to have invented or innovated the idea of TABBED BROWSING. OMFG!!!! Now thats innovation, taking an idea thats been done hundreds of times before and attempting to take credit for it ;-)

Only fanboys and retards claim that FF invented tabbed browsing.

FF on the other hand owns IE7.

I guess thats why I can use the same sites in tabs in IE7 and use around 45MB, and in FF it uses around 90-100MB? I am looking at the results right now, so I am not making this up. FF's mem management is HORRIBLE.

Well when you consider that IE is integrated with the OS, it had better use less memory. It shares system resources.

Amen, god forbid this was designed to be a NON PUBLIC BETA, which the public shouldnt have seen. Perhaps thats why it doesnt have other search engines in there at the present time. OH MY GOODNESS MR PEABODY, THAT IS UNCONCEIVABLE

"But the current search options are restricted to just a few sites, prompting concern of favoritism." It's just a beta and not even released to the open public. I am sure that we will be able to add our own, as we do in FF.

Yeah, my guess is it will be like the MSN bar is now, allowing you to put any search URL there with a wildcard for the search term.

omg omg finialy customizable search box oh sh%t FF already had that nvm

Score: 0

|

Maybe im stupid.. but, if you design a FREE piece of software like IE. And you make the search bar only allow like 10 sites that MS has chosen, who will really care? Its not like you cant download a bar or GO to that webpage and search.
