LG Philips Builds World's Largest LCD

By Nate Mook | Published March 8, 2006, 3:30 PM

When it comes to television, bigger is better -- at least according to Korean electronics giant LG and its Dutch partner Philips. LG Philips on Wednesday unveiled a 100-inch LCD screen, which is 1.5 times larger than an 82-inch model built by Samsung Electronics last year.

Although such a large display is likely never to reach consumers, companies in the LCD and plasma TV industry have used them to highlight their technological prowess. "Our development of the 100-inch LCD panel reaffirms that LG Philips LCD is the global leader in large-area LCD technology," said LG Philips executive vice president Yeo Sang-Deog.

I believe the 103inches is for a Plasma screen not LCD.

Never reach consumers?!?!?! Man how would that NOT reach consumers?!?! I know if I had the money for it, I'd buy a 100 inch LCD without even thinking about it. Not marketing to consumers would be a huge, stupid mistake!! How many guys out there with money to burn would buy it... I'd do it for football alone! Not reach consumers....what kind of BS is that? It BETTER reach consumers! Can you imagine: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas...on a 100 inch LCD screen!! OH man!!!

I want to see this as Best Buy like next week. Thanks.

This is funny, im not sure if your being sarcastic or serious. But I will say this, I don't see the need for anything bigger than 60". Unless your going to start charging an entrance fee to watch movies at home :-/

My dad's got a 65" and thats funny that you say that because my dad got it for christmas 2 years ago and for the first month when people were over joked around and said "That'll be $6.50." It took a minute for some people to understand. ;x

Nice, but will probably cost you as much as a car. A nice projector will also be a good idea. I have one and it looks great. I wonder what their Dead Pixel policy will be on this tv........

none. Who really needs a TV larger than them? No one. And if for whatever reason you would I would go with your sudgestion of a projector.

I've been considering a projector, but honestly, how good are they in a bright room? They seem unrealistic in replacing a TV, but rather useful only when using it for movies or sports in a "theatre room".

the upper level ones from like dell and epson are bright enough to use in a lit room. downside is that the bulb only lasts about 200 hours and cost 300 to replace.

and if you lose power or unplug it while it is in the cooling cycle the bulb cracks and the warrenty wont cover that.
