Latest Critical IE Patch Has Install Glitch

An error in the file that patched several critical vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer on Wednesday prevented users from installing the update, causing Microsoft to remove the patch for a period of time while the problem was fixed, according to representatives of the company.
"Shortly after we released the updates this morning we found that several of the Internet Explorer updates provided only to the Download Center were corrupted, breaking the digital signature and preventing them from installing," a post on the IEBlog read.
The problem only affected files on the Microsoft Download Center. Files placed on the Microsoft and Windows Update sites were installing correctly and did not have to be removed, the company said.
The patch was one of six released on Tuesday as part of Microsoft's Patch Tuesday campaign to plug security holes within its products. The problems within IE could lead to a hacker taking complete control of the affected system in a worst case scenario.
A check by BetaNews showed that the patch has reappeared on the Microsoft Download Center, indicating that the problem has been fixed.
This will please those "Anti-Microsoft" boys and girls, giving them some other stuff to complain about.

My experience:
On one of my machines the IE patch wouldn't install on the first try when using microsoft update. It did install on the second attempt.

Strangely enough today I still can't find the update from Download Center by KB number... guess it's not yet as fixed as they want to think.
I was able to manually download from the Windows Update Catalog site, however... and of course, Windows Update in general will update properly.

Yeah, I just went to WU yesterday and didn't have problems installing the patches on 3 computers.

Bull, I used windows update and it wouldn't install. Now I can't even use windows update.

That would be an unrelated issue... probably involving lack of instruction following and diagnosis.

Likewise, I updated a Windows system yesterday just fine. No problems, whatsoever.

No problems if installing via Windows Update. And I have done it before Microsoft yanks the update from their HTTP servers. This problem should only affect people who update manually.
