Voice over IP provider Teleo demonstrated a new low cost Internet telephony solution Monday that will allow users to receive VOIP calls over their cell phone or regular telephone. Users will also be able to make a call simply by clicking on a telephone number in an e-mail or on the Web.
The Teleo service will cost $4.95 USD per month for 250 minutes of calling time, or $2.95 USD each month for a "Lite" version that includes 150 minutes. The company will also offer a 30-day free trial that includes 25 minutes of access.
"Teleo adds VoIP to the communications tools people are already using - cell phones, email, and Web browsers. You can receive calls on a PC, or answer them on your cell phone. Click on an e-mail and you are instantly connected to the person who sent it. See a number on a Web site? Click it and the call goes through," Peter Sisson, CEO of Teleo, said in a statement.
Teleo's software -- currently in beta -- will integrate with Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer, allowing for "click-to-call" functionality. The software will detect a phone number within an e-mail or Web page, making it clickable to launch and dial the phone number in Teleo's software.
Overage on outbound calls will cost 2 cents a minute, and the service will initially offer call forwarding. Teleo said that voicemail features will be available soon.
...I would rather have a WiFi phone (or PDA with a headset) that can call any other WiFi phones (or PC) over the internet rather then forwarding it to a cell phone. Thats just my personal prefrence becose the means are avalible to me to have it.
But for everyone else out there not so lucky to live in a city with alot of WiFi coverage This method is good as well as cheap. Though it isn't much cheaper then using Skype and the click a phone number idea is also nothing new (already done in Skype).
All in all another company into the VOIP field is only a good thing though. Lets continue to destory the obsolete phone system :)
