Macromedia on Monday announced the latest addition to its MX product line, an enhanced version of the company's Director multimedia authoring tool. Director MX includes seamless integration with Flash MX and sports the same new user interface found in Macromedia's other MX products.
Macromedia Director enables developers to create rich multimedia presentations across numerous mediums including the Internet, which can be accessed using Macromedia's Shockwave Player. Users can build content experiences utilizing audio, images, text and more. Director can even stream full-length videos using QuickTime, RealVideo, or AVI formats.
"The new version of Macromedia Director makes this powerful application even more important to businesses that need to deliver maximum interactive experiences on fixed-media such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, as well as on the Internet," said Macromedia's president of products, Norm Meyrowitz, in the announcement.
Director MX is slated to ship in December at a street price of $1,199 for new users and $399 for upgrades. A Mac OS X version will also be available, built natively for Apple's UNIX-based operating system with support for QuickTime 6.

|The things that I've seen people do with Director are simply stunning. For example, there was that Shockwave Quake3 game on the internet months ago ... all done in Director and even renders in either DirectX or OpenGL.
I still can't believe how much functionality and speed you can get out of Director. It's almost as good to write a program in Director as it is to program it, the speed is good and the multimedia capabilities are top notch.
