Watch Tower temporary bannerhead

Following the prediction before the holiday shopping season that prices for Blu-ray players would fall further into the $150-to-200 range, Memorex has announced its MVBD-2520, a Blu-ray player for $199.99. The device, due to ship in early summer, includes Profile 2.0 or BD-Live via an Ethernet port, enabling consumers to download extra features and online bonus content, as well as firmware updates. It uses 1080p but can convert up from 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Older models without Profile 2.0 support have already been available under $200.

Well said Dark_Helmet.

I purchased my first Panasonic DVD player in October 1997. I paid $800.00 CAD back then. Purchasing movies was expensive as well. The prices varied from $30 to $40 (this is back in "97). I just purchased the BDP-1500 from Samsung for $279.00 + taxes. Those who don't know what they are talking about, shut the hell up!!!

wow what a gimmick. So during the holidays they said the 150 to 200 range and here we are AFTER the season has ended and were looking at a price point of 200. What a pile! Big surprise that models w/o Profile 2 are below this price... Someone needs to tell the blogroup that the subliminal messages aren't working the customers are buying what the can afford not what your telling them to buy.

With such limited media title availability (Adam Sandler titles notwithstanding) and consumable prices remaining in the ~$25 range, you can give the players away.

Who wants to sit 20 minutes while the disk loads and 15 minutes each time you attempt to skip a segment in order to 'save' time?

Meet BR - the new Laserdisk.
The exsorbitant total and ongoing cost of entry and consumables, the #%@$ player response characterisitics, the limited titles....too little for too much and we get 90% of eveything positive they offer already and for MUCH less.

oh please...your exaggerations are childish....there are Plenty of titles available on BD (there are over 3000 available on Amazon.com, and i don't think adam sandler has made 3000+ films) there are NO players that require anything approaching 15-20 min wait times for anything...

if you could actually remember back to when DVD first came out you would remember that it was MORE expensive than BD is today...
