Microsoft Goes After 8 More Spammers

By Nate Mook | Published June 11, 2004, 6:43 PM

In its latest salvo against unwanted e-mail flooding customer mailboxes, Microsoft has filed lawsuits against eight more spammers. The company claims the spammers deceived customers and attempted to hide the source of the spam. Redmond is now pursuing over 80 lawsuits against spammers around the world. Last March, Microsoft joined forces with AOL, EarthLink and Yahoo! to sue hundreds of spammers under the new CAN-SPAM act.

While I agree that spaming is bad, it is still only a guys sending 1s and 0s to lots of people. Yes, it is annoying. But instead of making them go to jail, they should be developping filters for their servers.

Now most of you must think that I am a spammer.. I am not, in any way. The reason I'm desagreeing with the jail time is because I dont think its THAT bad. Jails are already over populated as it is. And do you really think that sending a guy, that sends emails, to jail, is going to change anything? It's like sending someone to jail for copying MP3s, it's in the same set of crimes. It's bad, but its not worth going to jail for.

As much as I would like to think that this will make a difference, as long as ANY spammer gets a sale from sending that garbage, MS can prosecute all the spammers they want--it wont make a bit of difference.

Wish it did---and HATS OFF to MS for starting somewhere!

Thaaaaaaaaank you, Microsoft! People can say what they want about MS but how could anyone say anything bad about this? ;) The internet will truely be a better place once all of the Spammers are broke or locked away.

THis has to be one of the best things that MS has done in a long time. I agree, the courts should impose a computer use ban on these criminals. yes, I called them criminals. There is now a law against this, and it shouldn't take a lawsuit to have action taken. They should be arrested and tried for breaking the law, and the bans as well as fines should be imposed.

They should get the courts to put some ban on them and stop them from using computers
