Microsoft Owns Up To Halo 3 Disc Scratching
By the Betanews Staff | Published September 26, 2007, 11:16 AM
Microsoft confirmed blog reports Wednesday that the special limited edition packaging on some Halo 3 games was scratching the disc and has offered to replace them at no charge. The reports first surfaced within hours of the game's release, and quickly spread through other gaming forums. In order to quell any discontent, Microsoft has decided to waive the $20 USD fee through its Disc Replacement Program the game through December 31.
Only one replacement per gamer will be honored, and the original disc must be sent into Microsoft. The disc will be shipped out within two weeks. The Redmond company said this only affected a "small fraction" of the total number of games shipped and apologized for any inconvenience it may have caused.
Hmm, seems Microsoft has been bribing reviewers to give favorable reviews..
tut tut..
I can't believe people have been brainwashed like this.

Hey Dave did you see this? This is what happens when you make a good game. Something that you haven't seen on the PS3 and may not see on the PS3.
The XBOX 360 game "Halo 3" has done what no one else has done before in entertainment history.
It has done what no book, movie, game, CD, or Star Wars toilet paper for that matter could do: Sell for more than $170 million in 24 hours. Oh, and that is in the US alone. It was released worldwide yesterday, so expect even crazier figures soon.
Peter Jackson and his WETA friends are already working on a movie adaptation, so get used to the name "Halo." You will be hearing it a lot in the months to come.

It's nice that sites like BetaNews have a story about it. If I owned a Limted Edition Halo 3 that was scratched this would be comforting news. Well ok not to the hard core gamers who would have to wait a week or whatever to play the game, that would be torture :)
You really can't return this one to the store you bought it. Unless that store is in the middle of butt nowhere chances are they are sold out, so the store really could not replace it. And I'm pretty sure it would then be quicker to deal with Microsoft then the store.
I don't have an XBox 360 but hopefully one of my friends who does will buy Halo 3 so I can check it out. Personally I got my butt kicked with Halo 2 so not too much of in a hurry to get it kicked again by Halo 3. Of course I will deny this fact :)
Oh and my girlfriend says I'm a limited edition, just not really sure what she means by that lol

I got the Limited Edition, and when I opened it up both discs were not secured and moving around. Kinda unnerved me at first but I'm not too worried about it. At least they responded quickly to it, I'll keep that in mind if I have problems.

In recent years I've noticed a growing trend in declining quality assurance. I've lost track of all the music CD releases, DVD movies, and games that have broken tabs or fingers that are supposed to hold the discs securely in place (or sometimes not broken at all... just no good reason for the disc to be dislodged).
It's become common practice for me to grab a new movie off the shelf and gently shake it back and forth. If I hear the disc jostling around inside, I put it back and grab another. No one should have to do that.
The point is, it's not just Microsoft that this growing problem plagues. It's industry-wide, and it has to stop.

You are an idiot for only painting half the picture and blindly ignoring the other half.
Who cares! You are seem very concerned that they are fixing it since that is all you talk about. Does you mom know you have this anti MS obsession? Maybe you should get some professional help with that. Your hate speeches really are getting rather old.
Ed was right all you people will post is your hate of MS and nothing to prove that the PS3 is really a better system. The trolls have a very short list of comments even after they get proven wrong you come back with the same crap that is wrong or not accurate. I have yet to see a controller smoke. There was a possible issue with the wheel but that has also been fixed. I guess it really bothers you when something gets fixed. Sony we don't know since there is nothing to play on the PS3 so we don't know well it is made. So far there have been limited but far from no problems.

The 360 does have some issues but MS is fixing the problems. Other companies have not fixed theres in the past. I know your response this is the here and now. Well the here and now is still valid with the PS2 it still has read problems. Look on you favorite bluray.com board and notice that people there are posting comments about their broken PS3. Oh no that can't be only MS makes things that break. You really need to listne to yourself and get a clue. No company is perfect but at least MS is fixing the problem. You say they are still breaking, yawn, maybe have an other plan yet to implemented to fix the problem. Keep in mind that the warranty exten is three years. I would rather then send me new machine that could break down the line until a valid fix does come out versus the do nothing that other companies have and still do. Stop harping on things that you know nothing about. You do not know what MS is working on. You really fail to grasp some of the most simple things in life I do think as do others that some sort of mental health professional sould be seen for you hate issues.
The day you say anything that is factual is the day hell feezes over.
They are not known for their quality ok how about Windows for staters, great product. I hear you drying oh but it crashes. Well maybe the drivers from the sheap hardware you buy are the cause of the crashing. You point to MS as the cause when of course you have no idea what you are talking about.
