Microsoft Warns Over Mywife Worm

By the Betanews Staff | Published January 31, 2006, 4:22 PM

Microsoft has issued a public security advisory regarding the mass mailing Mywife worm that arrives as an e-mail attachment and sends itself to all contacts in a system's address book. The worm is designed to corrupt documents on the third day of each month. It also deletes files and registry keys associated with security software.

"As with all currently known variants of the Mywife malware, this variant does not make use of a security vulnerability, but is dependant on the user opening an infected file attachment. The malware also attempts to scan the network looking for systems it can connect to and infect," Microsoft warned. "Customers who believe that they are infected with the Mywife malware, or who are not sure whether they are infected, should contact their antivirus vendor."

OK, very simple. Quit opening email attachments. Why is that so hard?

Wonderful, now I have three major tests in school AND look forward to answering high call volume due to this little worm--all on Friday. (just noticed this article forgot to mention the payload occurrs the third day of every month, hence the 'Friday' reference.)

Look again: "The worm is designed to corrupt documents on the third day of each month."

Only if people are dumb enough to open their email. A virus doesn't suddenly appear on your computer UNLESS you DO something to put it there.

You computer isn't surfing on its own while you are not home, and just randomly downloading stuff.. This is a human flaw.

Get a good virus checker, like PC-Cillin, and you are covered.

*THIS* virus perhaps.

Have you forgotten about the WMF exploit that went around recently?

What did you have to do to put it there?

Oh yeah, browse the internet.

Most guys that get screwed over by their wife tend to get ticked off and take it out on the (ex)wife... this guy, however, is the geek of all geeks... he takes it out on everyone with a computer. Thanks jackass... thanks a lot.
