Microsoft to Bundle Games with Xbox 360
By the Betanews Staff | Published October 8, 2007, 12:53 PM
Microsoft said Monday that it will begin bundling two free games worth $90 with its standard $349.99 USD package and the Xbox 360 Elite in order to entice new consumers to the console. The games include Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance when they begin appearing at retailers in October. While many are expecting Microsoft to also release its replacement for the Core system, called "Xbox 360 Arcade," no announcement was made as of yet.
The console, which has been out since November 2005, has one of the broadest game lineups of the three next-generation systems. Besides Halo 3, the console currenty has six other titles expected to sell over a million units, including BioShock, Project Gotham Racing 4, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero III, and Call of Duty 4. 21 of the top 30 best rated games on Metacrtic.com are Xbox titles, Microsoft added.
I don't know why the cheerleader pitdingo believes we think its the end of the world that MS is number two in the console race. I don't care how they rank as long as they all stay in business and provide enough competition to keep prices down. I don't own any machine at the moment since I'm to busy to enjoy them right now, but i'm glad the competion exists and so should everyone else.

|Giving away games isn't a good sign I'd think, especially after halo3 was released. They must not have sold the number of consoles they thought they would from this game, or they are in pain for all the returns.
I won't bother with the wii because every time I went to buy it it was sold out.
I won't get an XBOX360 because MS obviously has some hardware issues they need to figure out.
I won't buy anything sony ever again because they lost my trust forever with the DRM/spyware fiasco in their CD's.
Stickin' with PC's, I guess.

How long until the XBox 720? The 360 is a failure, like the the XBox before it. M$ will soon abandon it and rush to get a head start on the next generation. LOL. even with a year+ head start, the Wii has sold more consoles. LMAO!!!
Good luck finding a Wii this holiday. I got mine. ;)

MS doesn't need a 720, all of the original 360 owners have already bought Elites and Pro's to replace their bricked consoles.
You don't understand what a harcore 360 owner is all about, they will buy 3 of them, I know people who already had two go bad and bought a third.
I have a Pro and an Elite, both new gen and no heat, no noise, no problems. The older ones are all crap, we can agree on that at least.
But you will rarely find a PS3 owner buying another one to replace thier DOA after the one year warranty is up.
The MS crowd just doesn't care about problem consoles, they just keep buying them.
When you can get people to buy multiple consoles, it's hardly a failure. We already know Sony drones will buy multiple PS's and PS2's, they have had a s***load go bad.

In the civilized world, there are no Wii's to be found. I was in GameStop yesterday and the phone rang three times with people asking if they had Wii's. "Sorry sold out"
They had a ton of 360's and PS3's with dust on them on the shelf. They guy said they sold a few 360's with Halo 3, but now they are barely selling any again. And that was only after, what, a week?
You do bring up a good point...the install base for the M$ 360 is inflated as people buy several consoles due to all the problems and lacking/incomplete feature sets when the first consoles shipped. This is bad for M$ as it means lost software revenue. You might have three 360's but you are not buying three Halo 3's.

Signs of desperation from M$...with Halo 3 out, there is nothing else for the holidays. Now they are giving away games (crappy games btw) to help move consoles.
Nintendo is number one, even after M$ had over a year head start, continues to sell at a pace to eclipse the PS2 (top selling console of all time), and still has two AAA titles coming out for the holidays.

Wow...I don't know what could match that!!! /sarcasm Hate to break it to you, but high sales or not the Wii is starting to look more and more like a machine directed more at the kiddies and non gamers. M$ (Sony or Nintendo) are not going to give away games or have a price cut for no reason. Nintendo has not had a pricecut because they are still selling every console they can make.
Sony is "cutting" prices and introducing new SKU's as they can not sell consoles. M$ is doing the same. Neither company can touch Nintendo right now and they are desperately trying to figure it out.
If Nintendo can continue this pace and expand on it through the holidays...both M$ and Sony will never catch them in this generation. And there is no reason to think Nintendo is not going to continue this pace.
Developers are going to devote more and more resources to the Wii as that is the biggest installed base. More games == even more sales == even bigger problems for both M$ and Sony.

It's the people who foolishly place it on the carpet, against a wall, or behind closed doors inside a heat-coffin in their entertainment center who feel they have a case against Microsoft when they wonder why it's overheating.
