Microsoft to Join Up with Yahoo?

By Nate Mook | Published May 3, 2006, 10:55 AM

With Google's dominance in the search market continuing to grow, Microsoft has turned to an unlikely ally with an olive branch in hand: Yahoo. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Redmond company has held discussion about acquiring a stake in Yahoo, although the talks are not currently active.

Microsoft is currently reorganizing its search business, bringing in former Ask.com CEO Steve Berkowitz to head MSN. However, sources say the two companies have discussed possible options over the past year, including a minority investment in Yahoo and even a full buyout. Microsoft had previously considered buying a stake in Time Warner's AOL division before Google offered $1 billion.

I guess that's good news for Yahoo, does that means Yahoo will be much stronger than Google? would love to see that. Dani

I would love for Microsoft to buy Yahoo! That would rule.

It would also make me laugh heartily at Google. :)

*Microsoft and Yahoo have discussed possible options over the past year, the newspaper said. Microsoft could sell its MSN online network to Yahoo and take a minority stake in the Internet portal, it said.*

*Analysts said Microsoft planned to spend an additional $2 billion in the coming fiscal year starting July 1, speculating that much of that investment would go toward building an ad-supported online service business.*

This article left this part out..

I'm sure it went something like this:

"Hey, that Google sure is giving us both a rough time of it, eh?"

"Yeah. Our combined market share doesn't even come close."

Anything else would likely give poor rijp a heart-attack. ;)

"Microsoft had previously considered buying a stake in Time Warner's AOL division before Google offered $1 billion."

Hey, rijp...If MS makes a play, you know Google is gonna jump in with more, right?

Heh...Google buying Yahoo. Now there's a warm-fuzzy for ya. *grin*

Actually, Google buying Yahoo, would not surprise me. Everytime a product I like, it gets absorbed by some other company.. this has happened on a few occassions.. Its amazing.

I like Google buying Yahoo actually, that would be cool.

The thing of it is, I use Gmail, I use Google, I just *prefer* yahoo. I use everything, I learned a long time ago, you can't be concentrated on one thing, with so many people switching companies, and buying up other technologies, its not even the same company anymore after just a couple of years..

Which amazes me why people have such long lasting dedication for high school college and professional teams..

How can you be a Yankees fan? They just buy the best players from around the league from the previous year, that's like buying candy, and then using different sweetners with each bite.

Anyway, there is NO loyalty anymore. For the time being, I just like Yahoo.
