Microsoft to Release Halo 3 Beta

Microsoft said Wednesday that it would offer a public beta of its highly anticipated "Halo 3" video game to Xbox 360 users via Xbox Live in the spring of next year. In addition, advertising for the game would begin in December, and new premium content for Halo 2 is also planned.
The company is hoping to make gamers a bigger part of the development process through the beta. Bungie Studios plans to use the feedback it receives on Halo 3 to refine the game in preparation for the final release.
"The 'Halo' Nation has a nearly insatiable desire," Microsoft Interactive entertainment marketing corporate vice president Jeff Bell said. "We hope a taste of advance 'Halo 3' gameplay satisfies some of their appetite as we count down to the game's launch later in 2007."
The first television ad for Halo 3 will air once in December - a 60-second teaser of the game's features. The spot will appear during Monday Night Football on December 4, and will be available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to extend the Halo 2 franchise by releasing new downloadable content via Xbox Live in the spring around the time of the Halo 3 beta launch.
Halo has been a huge success for Microsoft, with 14.7 million games sold and raking in nearly $700 million in sales.
Halo 3 will not even come close to Killzone 2 sorry Halo fans but Killzone is 10 times better than Halo

|...Hail Microsoft.

|Public Beta? Is it like a demo version or a beta of the full version.
It would be cool if they make the beta an ISO download like they've been doing with Vista RCs or make it available on xbox live!

|Huuuuuuuuury up with that.

|I wonder though if it'll be free.

|The whole Halo 3 game seemed to have alot less advertising and marketing this time around.
Score: 0
|Well considering that Halo 3 doesn't come out until sometime in the fall of '07, there's no need to start advertising now.

|Dont you mean Spring of 07, bucko?

|Try Fall of 07, buddy.

The article says nothing regarding the actual *release* date.

|Tune into the psychic vibe, dude.

|I thought that Microsoft originally said they would release Halo 3 at the same time the PS3 hit the market, in an effort to try to further persuade people to move to the 360 platform. I guess not!

|They never promised they would do something like that, and to be honest I'm really glad. After that interview they later stated it won't release it until it's DONE, and they aren't going to rush it... Unlike a certain console being released this coming Friday.

|The should do this for more titles. Maybe it would prevent the online issues so many seem to have once they are released.

|Still waiting for Halo 2 for the PC.
Ah well...
*loads up Prey*

|The PC version of HALO 2 will only run on Vista.

|Wow...you mean, like, 3 years after it was released on the XBOX?
*laughs*
Yeah, send 3 to the consoles shortly after the PC gets 2. Way to show us the love, MS.
Jerks.

|I gotta ask:
Why?
Although I can understand PC is a much better platform for that style of game, console-to-PC converts are usually sub-par in the quality department.
Score: 0
|I would normally agree with you, but the Halo 1 conversion was very good.

|If thats true then thats great news! So long as directx10 lives up to the hype it should make for a better Halo experience. Then again I see no reason why XP can't run directx10....

|Which is freaking gay.
And the main reason I went ahead and bought an Xbox 1 last month.
Score: 0
|The only reason is that Microsoft wants to force people to upgrade to Vista.
Score: 0
|Why?
Because I enjoyed Halo 1 on the PC, and I do not want an XBOX.
Score: 0
|Yeah.
It has *nothing* to do with the fact that DX10 utilizes an entirely different driver model and they'd have to backport the Vista driver model to XP.
Nothing to so with that at all...

|Yah, really lol.
