Microsoft Offers Up MacBooks, iPods

In a seemingly strange twist, Microsoft has announced a "Spring Cleaning" contest that is offering users the chance to win Apple's new MacBook Pro laptops, iPods, Cinema Displays and more. The contest is being held by Microsoft's Mac Business Unit to breathe some life into Office 2004 for Mac.

The Redmond company is also putting up some products of its own, including its Wireless Laser Desktop keyboard and mouse package and Xbox 360 consoles. Four grand prize winners will be chosen, along with $60,000 in runner-up prizes. Users can join the contest by filling out a short entry form by June 30, 2006.

MS office is unlike other MS products, very good in windows and mac. So far the only competition i see is from apple other software, like keynote, but still is not as big and as complete as office for mac. They should give more mac computers. Buy Office for mac get a free Mac Mini.... or Ipod Nano

Microsoft owns Apple, Bill Gates practically bought it when it gave them the money but that was "for friendship" with Steve Jobs and such.. yeah, sure.. so that the DoJ couldn't have said that Microsoft formally bought Apple...

Not so strange...Microsoft knows that Mac Office 2004 is very popular with Mac users and is one of the best selling Mac software titles. This contest is not about Windows vs. OS X, even though both now run on Intel CPUs, but is more likely an attempt to let Mac users know that Microsoft is going to release a UniBin version of Office.

Why is this strange?

Microsoft has invested into the Mac market and is trying to spread the word a little. Just because they make a "competing" operating system doesn't mean they can't bank in on the success of the other.

First in!

The last time I won anything from Microsoft was a Windows Media Player 7 t-shirt. Before that, it was a full copy of Windows 2000 Professional.

Here's to good luck!

Doh! irdepesca572 just posted before I did. I guess I won't be winning anything now.

I wish Betanews had a better comment system. What's with the crazy thread nesting?!?! (most recent post on top makes it hard to follow threads unless you read from bottom up)
