More Details on Whistler 2410
By Aaron Dobbins | Published January 8, 2001, 4:30 PM
As reported last week, Microsoft sent out build 2410 of its next operating system, Windows Whistler, to testers last Thursday. The operating system is set to debut with several versions, including personal versions and a 64-bit datacenter model.
i'm getting the following error after the setup files have loaded and the system has rebooted to start installing.
"setup cannot load the keyboard layout file KBDUS.DLL, setup cannot continue"
so i tried to canada one. no luck, any ideas?

Well 1st It can run windows 95, and NT4 Programs, or at least it will before it goes final :)
2nd, isn't the first reason enough? Seriously though, If you have a network, you will love the ability to logon to any computer from any other.
3rd, The GUI. Not just the skining, which runs very well. but many features, such as:
Grouping of similar items on taskbar
New improved ability to lock the taskbar (IE6 bars too).
many minot visual improvements
4th new options, optimizations, and customizability. Such as "optimize memory for system cache" any many misc custimizabiltys.

SO what do you think after all the peoples Opinings do mater to Microsoft Don't they .Look at all the progress like is making the newest kernel 2.4 is out and it has more than one shell and is more stable than windows 98 etc..
I mean People do not want to pay for Beta Software but they do what to stay up todate with software
the web site for mandrake is www.linux-mandrake.com and you can download an image of it and write it too a CD-ROM RW etc..
The ONLY PROBLEM LINUX HAS IS THAT WINMODEMS DO NOT WORK UNDER LINUX JUST BECAUSE THEY USE WINDOWS ONLY SOFTWARE WHICH IS NOT COOL FOR ANYONE WHICH HAS WINMODEM and has to keep Windows 98 etc.. on there system just to go online and then to download linux etc.. stuff and copy it from the windows hard drive to the linux hard drive just and it makes playing Quake 3 etc .. games on the net in Linux inpossible .THE games will run great in linux but what do does that do YOU if YOU have to BE in Windows to go online and I will not even talk about the fact to if you use MSN Connect and think you are going to even find a Linux Version of that and will have to edit a LOT of things to get that to work in Linux but on the bright side of things least Linux does not EAT memory like Windows and does not have the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH A LOT and has less BUGS than Windows and will they ever give Windows 98 patches to remove the dos code from there computers to make windows run faster ?? I no that they did it in Whistler version BUT AGAIN WHO WHATS TO PAY FOR PATCHES OR UPGRADES THAT SHOULD OF BEEN IN WINDOWS IN THE FIRST PLACE
IF WINDOWS WAS OPEN-SOURCE THEN THESE THINGS MAY NOT BE AS BAD AS THEY ARE

|First, have you EVER heard of a period(.)?
Second, there are a couple alternatives to Windows98, you have to keep in mind that Win98 is not at all the latest OS, you have WinMe (which, if your hardware is supported, it runs perfectly), and Win2k (which is even better than WinMe for what I do, but it's not exactly geared towards the consumer), and then now, we are testing Whistler, which is just phenominal.

I usually have several explorer windows open and view different pages. However, with other apps open, my taskbar quickly gets cluttered and I have to sift through to get the window I want. I would like to see a "minimize" button for each page you view. This way, you can have one IE open, but you can have several web pages open at the same time. It would be a matter of minimizing or maximizing, etc. Sort of like in photoshop. You can have multiple photos open and switch between any photo you like. DISCLAIMER: Nothing is guaranteed to work and if you choose to do this, it is at your own behest.
Here's some stuff you need to know before running Whistler 2410 Pro:
1)Before beginning your install, make *sure* you are not
connected to the network. Unplug your CAT5 from your Nic card, and
wait until you are done.
2)DO NOT use dynamic update when Install asks you if you want to do
this.
3)Once you have finished your install and boot Whistler for the first
time, you will go through a registration-type screen.
One of the steps asks you to set up your internet connection.
* Select your network connection
* Click NEXT
* You will have a choice to click next or to Skip. CLICK NEXT.
this will cause the wizard to crash. Click OK.
4) Click Start-Run- and in the dialog box type this EXACTLY:
regsvr32.exe -u regwizc.dll
You will see a confirmation window appear. Close it
5) Open Regedit by doing Start-Run-regedit
6) Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
change RegDone value to 1
7) Open Internet Explorer. Open the Tools-Internet Options dialogb box.
Change the default Home Page to something OTHER
than what is there, just NOT Microsoft or MSN. Click APPLY and OK.
8) Reboot your system. Before Windows starts up, plug your network
connection back in.
You should be good to go. Whistler 2410 Pro will run cleanly as far as I can tell
for quite some time.
