.NET Framework 2.0 Final Released

By Nate Mook | Published October 27, 2005, 2:45 PM

In preparation for the launch of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 on November 7, the final release of the .NET Framework 2.0 is now available for download. Version 2.0 serves at the underpinnings for next-generation Windows applications and will be integrated into Windows Vista.

According to Microsoft, the new release "improves scalability and performance of applications with improved caching, application deployment and updating with ClickOnce, support for the broadest array of browsers and devices with ASP.NET 2.0 controls and services." does the SQL SERVER 2005 CTP September release have problems with .Net Framework 2.0 ...?

it works fine with .Net Framework 2.0 beta can anyone help?

if you get 2.0 do you still need 1.1?

Yes and no. Some applications do not work with the changes that 2.0 framework made, but you can (and should) install 1.1 alongside each other.

If you don't have any dot net framework, install 2.0, you may however find something that insists on 1.1. If you already have 1.1, install 2.0 alongside it.

Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server also RTM'd! Oh, happy day! :)

Sweet, I'm downloading it right now.

O my gosh! Nate Mook is writing a BN article that is not biased against Microsoft? This is a day to remember!

Biases, and the detection thereof, are soooo subjective. It's like watching O'Reilly read the e-mail from people at the end of the show. One guy calls him a raging liberal, the next calls him a rigid conservative.

O'Reilly? I think I just lost all respect for you, man.

LOL

I haven't seen that show in forever. It was just a "for instance." He yells too much lol.

All I need now is VS 2005 and I'm set for life.

Anyone know if this breaks the latest Monad beta? Or anything else for that matter.

I'm rather disappointed that this is the way things are going. I suppose there's really no point to be due to prefetching, but I think I should explain it nonetheless.

Win2k Boot Time: 30s
Win2k Boot Time w/Framework 1.1: 45s
WinXP Boot Time: 12s
WinXP Boot Time w/ Framework 2.0: Unknown

Although for XP my HD is mostly not busy when booting(ie the prefetcher is idle), I am saddened to see the day approaching when our comps load more data off the harddrive than it takes time to initialize devices, even if it's only by a few seconds.

I'll bet they rushed the final version out just so they could include it in Windows Vista Beta 2.

No complaints here though.

Not rushed. It was always planned to hit the web around now. It has RTM'd as expected and will be released on November 7th (they need to press all the CDs, etc remember).

They can put it online pretty much as soon as they have tested it, that is the beauty of MSDN :)

Sadly MSDN is getting hammered right now, I can't get the download started! D'oh!

He was problably referring to VS2005 & SQL2005. Not the .NET Framework 2.0
