Nero to Release Burning Suite Version 7

By Ed Oswald | Published October 11, 2005, 12:02 PM

Nero will soon release a new version of its digital media software, Nero 7. The suite now includes 18 applications including Nero Home, a new Media Center-like program that allows users to navigate their digital media on a TV screen with a remote control. Version 7 also adds support for Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

The company has also added the capability for a custom install, meaning users can select which Nero 7 applications are loaded onto their machines. Other new features include Nero Scout, a new media database application; redesigned backup and burning applications; and support for 5.1 and 7.1 audio recording. Nero 7 will go on sale October 26 for $99.99 USD. A Web-only download is priced at $79.99 USD.

You must admit ( MIcrosoft are you listening ?)The Germans know how to produce software that is all inclusive if not redundant. What Nero has always done is give you a product that satisfies everyone's needs Is it expensive ? Of course but to meet the growing media appetite, the Nero engineers had to develop a product that was multi-tasking .They have accomplished that with version 7 .It is bloate dand unforgiving ...but good So is Ms Office ..no matter which version , you are using in excess of 40 megabytes.Question ? Do you want to write letters to your true love or produce a video ....starring your woman , using Nero 7

It´s too expensive! It is more expensive than the DVD burner hardware even. They should make a lite version with only the burning application for say $30-35.

They do. We sell an OEM version of Nero 6 for $27.50 (AUD).

Thanks, but...

"As you purchased Nero with a recorder, you have an OEM version that can only be used with that single recorder. OEM versions are limited versions, which do not contain all features. The manufacturer of the recorder decides about the features which will be implemented in the Nero OEM version. That means your version of Nero does not include all features of the full (=retail) version".

Ultra 7 is quite nice. Rather large install, but works 100x better for me than Ultra 6 did. (Ultra 6 seemed to suck, for me at least, with a about 1 good cd along with 5 coasters)

Ultra 7 has yet to produce a coaster for me. And the UI is yummy.

Haven't used any of the other "nifty" features.

From the leaked screenshots 'n stuff it seems they've improved the UI, so it should be good.

Tried the Premium which is equivalent to the Ultra version 7.

A bit disappointted due to lower performance, maybe it's just my machine acting up! But Ultra 6 definitely worked fine.

I will reinstall my XP and see how it goes.

You're solution to "lower performance" in a cd/dvd burning app is to REINSTALL THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM? God d@mn. You must not have a lot of things installed. That's like saying "You know, this new paint color is close, but it shows dirt too fast. Lets tear the house down and start over."

HOW is performance worse? You couldn't burn at the same speeds as before? Or is it possibly just because you're using the buggy pre-release that's been making the rounds on the net?

I've only used a few of the programs in 7 so far, but I like it much better than 6. In 6, I only used the burning engine but 7 has some very cool features. The Photo Snap Viewer is one of my favorites; I often use it to open an image on one monitor and then use FastStone or the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer on the other. I can then compare and do quick image edits without having to open Photoshop. This really saves time for me cause I do this type of thing all day. Why Microsoft doesn't allow you to take advantage of multi monitor setups with their image viewer is beyond me. Hopefully, Vista will address this.

Nero 7 has been working quite well so far. The few issues I have had will probably be ironed out before release.
