New Windows Vista Beta Build Leaks

By Nate Mook | Published October 10, 2005, 10:56 AM

Weeks before Microsoft is expected to release the October Community Technology Preview of Windows Vista, build 5231 has found its way onto the Internet. The pre-Beta 2 release incorporates minor updates over the September CTP that debuted at PDC 2005, including an early build of Windows Media Player 11.

Internet Explorer 7 has also received a minor facelift, with its tabs moved below the address bar to match the interface style used by the likes of Firefox and Opera. The Windows Sidebar has re-emerged in Vista build 5231, but it's not clear if the October CTP will include the feature.

Ques 1: Does anyone know of a link that explains what will be new in WMP11?
Ques 2: Will Vista be released in both 32 and 64-bit? (I assume so, but somebody posted a rumor that it will end up only as 64-bit even though the 32-bit version is available)

I recommend that people currently ONLY download the 32-bit as downloading the 64-bit only compounds the lack of software/driver support.

@ Question 2: it will be both 32 and 64-bit.

Also, you don't have the option right now of downloading just the 32-bit or 64-bit versions. It's one installation package that includes 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the home and server editions (the technical names escape me atm).

I would be willing to bet that MS wants it to leak. Maybe not before they planned to release it lol, but if people are leaking it, that means there is an interest in it.

Well, WMP11 definitely looks very nice and streamlined; even more so than WMP10. But probably the most interesting of these screenshots is the Volume Control, which apparently will allow you to control the volume of individual applications independent of others, which is a very nice feature. No more having to go into the settings of each program to change the volume, just turn it down through Windows.

IE7 also looks to be coming along very nicely, now with a thumbnail view of browser pages. The layout seems much improved from 5219 as well. I just can't wait for thist stupid OS to come out!

They're called torrents ;-)

Torrents, my friend, suck.

Usenet is king. Faster, safer, more reliable, less communal.

alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.ms-beta

Of course, this would mean more if it was out there, which for some odd reason it is not. Yet.

*sigh*

Back to work.

It has been out there for a while my friend.

Check out some news groups for a link to a torrent. ;)

lol "torrents suck" is an opinion that I might agree with if I wanted to pay a server fee on usenet.

Torrents are the download option for everyone else. The guy obviously didn't even know about them, so I was trying to give him a simple solution.

Not to bash but microsoft but they make it to easy sometimes, it is funny, everyone battles out which is better opera, fire fox IE.... well all the firefox fans just got 1up. Microsoft new ie7 has alot of shortcuts and gui interfaces like 3rd party browsers. microsoft has started incorprating alot of functionality, other 3rd party companies have done for a while.
