RSSNewest IE7 Patch Can Disable Browser

Microsoft on Thursday said it was working to resolve a minor problem caused by its latest cumulative update for Internet Explorer 7, which can prevent the browser from opening altogether. The issue occurs when customers change the default "Temporary Internet Files" after installing the patch.
According to a new Knowledge Base article on the matter, users may see the File Download – Security Warning dialog box raised when starting IE. Once the box is closed, IE7 cannot be started because permissions on the custom temporary files directory are not the same as the default. Users can change the directory back, or update permissions on the new directory in order to regain access to IE.
Best patch ever!
Have people use an actual browser like Opera or Firefox rather than that IE garbage.

My IE's been crashing incessantly since immediately after getting that patch-- nothing to do with TIF btw.

The latest IE7 update also screws with Outlook 2003 if you have a large restricted sites list.

Actually I change my IE as one of the first things I do...
I have a 10 or 20 gig partition that everything temp goes into, that way all I have to do is delete that partition if things start going hey wire and don't have to reinstall from scratch more often than not...

*/temporary internet files/content.ie5/index.dat is very difficult to delete.
The only way I know of is to to change the location of the internet temp files
in the registry, reboot and delete the old tempor etc.
Why delete it? For me, the larger index.dat is the longer it takes for some
apps to load. For others, privacy-index.dat seems to list everything IE has
done.
Note that the on disk format of tempor etc is not visible in Win. Explor.
(not under '95, '98 or XP anyway.) You'll need a third party ap such as ACDC
or Compupic.
BTW, I use Firefox, don't have IE7 installed.

Who changes the Temporary Internet Files Folder anyways? Not many I bet. That's why it's a minor issue.

Many change the temp file location..
Many script kiddies rely on it being in it's default location... hence why many change it.
Also many organizations with Roaming Profiles change the default location.
Just because your single desktop doesn't.... doesn't mean it's not a issue.
