Nine Patches Due for Patch Tuesday

Microsoft plans to release nine patches as part of its August Patch Tuesday release, including six critical fixes for a host of code execution issues in several of its products. The patches will plug holes in XML Core Services, Windows, Internet Explorer, Office for both Windows and Mac, and Visual Basic.
In addition, three patches rated "important" will be released for two less severe code execution issues, and an elevation of privilege risk. The former patches are for Windows and Windows Vista, while the latter affects Virtual PC and Virtual Server. Microsoft said it planned to hold a webcast next Wednesday at 11:00am PT to discuss the releases.

Look at that no one is safe PANIC!
my favorite quote:
Miller said his formula for finding a zero-day flaw on a Mac is this: "Find an open-source package that they use that's out of date--there's, like I said, plenty of those." He then suggested reading through the change log for the current version of any of the above open-source software to find a useable bug that's been fixed in the newer version but still vulnerable to Mac OS X users. Miller said by doing this, "you won't have to worry about static analysis or fuzzing or any of that stuff."

|it's good to see that MS is finally getting ontop of windows,
not that many issues remaining now,
the amount of patches being released are getting less and less as time goes by,
clearly windows xp has finally reached a point where what can be done has been done,
all were see now is the endless game of security fixes, which can't be helped, giving the nature of the open ended OS, it will be impossible to ever plug up every security hole that exists, mainly of course, one has to find the hole before it can be addressed,
I'm more curious what Service pack 3 will contain, personally I think MS should just release some more Update roll-out packages (security fixes combined in one file)
as for Macintosh, 50 updates, not looking good for them these days, considering 6 months ago, i was reading posts everywhere stating how secure Mac OS is, and now suddenly over the course of these last six month, I've seen a massive increase in security problems with there OS,
perhaps all that proper ganda they've been spouting at the beginning of the year, has caused some very talented crackers ripping there OS apart,
they only have a small share of users compared to MS, but that doesn't mean there safe, at least they've stopped sprouting there crap about there OS being more secure then MS,
