Symantec Corporation, maker of the popular suite of utilities to protect and repair computer systems, has announced open beta testing of its new program Norton Personal Firewall 2000. This software provides "maximum defense against hackers and other Internet threats," touts Symantec. Users can choose between predefined security settings or create their own, choose what sites allow ActiveX and Java, and block unwanted cookies. Users can also prevent personal information from being sent to sites without their knowledge, and the software can be controlled in the same window as Norton AntiVirus 2000. Apply to beta test Norton Personal Firewall 2000, and visit Symantec for more information.
I had a very bad time installing it on windowsME with an Intel 2100
DSL modem . I finaly clt,alt ,del to stop the setup after it got to always failed update. Them reinstalled again but every time I open my Explorer 5.5 browser , BANG get da Blue Screen
I can not get it to work ..

|I cannot get it to work under Windows ME 2525 either. Everytime installation program tried to udate it fails then uninstall the whole program itself. Wierd

|Read the word document on Norton Personal Firewall Beta, it is not
supported on Windows-Me.

|I still prefer good old AtGuard, which Symantec acquired andused as a base for NIS. Small, efficient and effective. It's all I need :)

|Rebooted b4 I started the install..... from power on until ready to use took around 1 + 1/2 mins........ installed this, rebooted...... lol 1 hr later it STILL hadnt finished loging onto my network...
probably best not to install this on networked w2k pro machines atm :)

|I've been wishing for a more usable personal firewall, so thanks to Betanews for pointing me to it. It's a little bloated, but it's easy to configure and not as confusing as some. Unlike BlackIce, it leaves me feeling confident that it's actually working. Unlike Zonealarm, it doesn't totally entangle your Internet Connection Sharing and leave me no choice but to uninstall it. This may be the magic bullet I was looking for. Time will tell, but right now I'm pretty happy with it.

|Tested it with iss scanner ran all tests from denial of service etc to backdoor attacks it caught them all more than can be said for black ice defender .

|Isn't this what Norton Internet Security 2000 does already?

|It has less option (Ads blocking) then the NIS2000
