By Aaron Dobbins | Published March 20, 2000, 7:05 PM

Microsoft will be making Service Release 1 for its popular office suite Microsoft Office 2000 available for download tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. PST. This release will fix a number of bugs in the office suite, including Office Setup, and can be installed on any version of Office 2000. The release can be either downloaded from Microsoft, or can be ordered on CD (site will be available Tuesday) from Microsoft.

I downloaded SR-1 for Office 2000 Premium and installed it on a Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and a Windows 2000 Professional PC and in both cases, after the SR-1 install and after the reboot, everytime I open ANY Office 2000 application it opens and then closes out within about three seconds. If anyone else is having this problem, please e-mail me a bgrove@webmail.bellsouth.net to let me know, so I know that I am not the only one having this problem. Thanks.

LOOK OUT!!!!!!!!!! I spoke with a Microsoft Beta tester this morning...they are having MAJOR "ISSUES" with this update. It hosed my Office 2000 Premium last night. WARNING...don't upgrade to the service release!

This update, which supposedly provides improved support for Windows 2000, instead hosed every Office 2000 Premium app I had. Every Office app would close immediately after opening or get some weird error message like "There was an error sending a command to the program." Had to uninstall and reinstall Office.

It blows my mind that something this serious was not caught during beta test...MS is getting ready to have a support nightmare on their hands!

Read the article BEFORE you post some stupid question! Once is fine, but TWO repeated questions?? Come on!

Will it include that little feature that makes the user register their copy of O2k after 50 uses? Microsoft wants to cut down on pirating, but will it put it in the patch and not tell anyone??

I wouldn't be the least suprised if they did. NO probs, I',m sure some inspring hack will find the registry entry that determines if the application has been "registered" or not.

For every anti-piracy scheme, there is always a patch(most noteable the Timebomb version of W2K RTM)

I'd like to know where I could order the update on CD. I have Office 2000 Premium and would like them to support their customers a little more... One is not always willing to download an update, but would rather like to receive it by mail.
Thanks

Georges

How about you try clicking on that little link that says "ordered on CD" in the story. GOD, some people....

Hehe, the link was added after the comment was made :)

And the link to order the CD does not work! ;-)

It gives the reason for this in the brackets. Try reading it before posting such stupid comments.

Hey dso47... Guess what? It's Tuesday and the link still doesn't work. You need to practice what you preach re: stupid comments! Moron.
