Opera Goes 'Mini' for Mobile Phones

Opera Software on Wednesday introduced a version of its popular Web browser for Java-enabled mobile phones. Opera Mini serves as an alternative to Opera's current mobile browser, and is designed to allow users to access the Web on phones normally incapable of running a browser.
To keep memory usage down, Opera Mini will utilize a remote proxy that pre-processes a Web page before sending it to the phone. The browser can be installed using an SMS message or by clicking a link via a WAP browser. "With Opera Mini, the phone only has to run a small Java-client and the rest is taken care of by the remotely located Opera Mini server," said Opera CEO Jon S. von Tetzchner.

Go there using your WAP browser. It MIGHT work...
Something tells me Sprint won't offer it, FWIW... I'm amazed that they let the Treos on the $15/mo data access, considering that the Pocket PCs are only allowed on the business $30/mo access due to (AFAICT) the fact that there's a full browser on there...

|Have to agree with the two previous posts. The WAP browser on my Sony Ericsson leaves a lot to be desired. I use Opera on my desktop and I'd love to use it on my cell phone. Cingular, are you reading this???

|If Cingular ever offers this, I'd be all over it. Like OafyC, the browser on my Moto needs improvement.

|This will be nice if some of the US providers offer it, so far it's only available in Norway. The browser on my Moto could really use an improvement.
