For me as I have gotten older(26), my expectation of realism, physics, and visual/audio quality has become an intricate part of gameplay.

I want to feel like I'm in the game looking through the windshield of my baja 4x4 truck as I hit a jump that slingshots my hog across a rocky ravine or feel like I'm part of a hollywood caliber production where aliens are chasing me down to feast upon my brains. I want the kind of cg graphics that would make the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park blush.

I don't really dig cell shaded, blocky shaded graphics as much as I used to.

In the past with the nes, snes, and n64 I was completely awed each time Nintendo came out with a new console and how amazing it looked. I'm afraid nintendo has left that arena to sony and ms now. Since the gamecube, I'm no longer awed with Nintendo consoles. The console box has gotten smaller and so has the hardware to help heighten the cuteness factor.

I know the Sony supporters will hate to hear this, but there are two main reasons for the PS3 failing so badly. The first and biggest one is of course the price. I know Sony's Ken Kutaragi will have you believe that the PS3 is a huge bargain because they're losing tons of money on it. They try to convince you that it's not just a gaming machine, but a home entertainment machine! People will never go for this. If they want a game console, they're going to buy a game console, and as such the PS3 is way overpriced. It doesn't matter how much of bargain it is, people won't go for it. Even the Xbox360 was pushing the limit with its price. What the hell was Sony thinking? $600 USD for a game console? Get real.

The second reason is, of course the lack of good games and exclusives, which we can be attributed partly to the Xbox360. Sony gave Microsoft a one year head start. One year in the console industry is an eternity. Software developers didn't sit around, waiting for Sony to catch up. They jumped ship. It's as simple as that. By the time the PS3 came out, the Xbox360 had an almost 10 million strong install base. Software houses are going to develop for the console with the highest install base. Most of the next gen games are being developed for the Xbox360 (or Wii) and they're just doing crappy ports for the PS3. Why buy a far more expensive PS3 if you're going to get the same games as the cheaper Xbox360 has? I know you're dying to chime in "but kashin, the PS3 has more power and better grafix lol!", but even if that's true, it means nothing if the games don't utilize it. Last generation most games were developed for the PS2 and then ported to other platforms. This time around things are quite a bit different.

Err...actually they can. They're all written on a PC. Takes no time at all to create a port to Xbox 360.

There's been a few "PS3" exclusives which have been released on Xbox 360 not long after.

It has already been stated that those games would not be ported by the respective developers, and just because it was created on a pc doesn't mean it's easily ported. There is still that sticky thing called different code for different machines. You make it sound really easy, but how many games have you created for any console? Do you even know how? Don't trivialize something that is very hard to do.

The developers have already stated, that they are impossible on the 360, mainly due to the lack of Cell, and limitations of DVD9.

I suspect it's also down to not wanting to push the 360 too hard, as it may start failing.. I see Guitar Hero II caused alot of failed consoles, as it pushed the 360 hard... LOL

Actually the media pc support was one of the reasons I wanted one. I just setup my PS3 last night to replace my previous Media PC and the latest firmware update now allows me to stream media off my fileserver in the basement to my PS3 which is connected to my 40" HD TV upstairs. It's beautiful.:)

I'm quite content with my new PS3 setup and my previous Media PC(AMD 3200+,Nvidia 6600GT) is going on the ebay auction block shortly.

Well, if they actually had a library of games for it, they would be doing OK.

Also with the Format War of HD-DVD or BLU-RAY most do not want to see BLU-RAY as the PS3 game format only.

Nintendo's Price Point is what is selling the unit.

I am not a Sony or WII fan-boy, but if they can make it to the Holidays of 2007, and the games come as promised, they will be fine.

Overall, both systems were released a year to early. The both needed to wait for Software / Hardware suppliers to well make stuff for them.

The major concern with the console is the lack of big name games for it. To launch a system without having anything to provoke people the buy it is pretty poor marketing strategy. I own and still have every system from my old atari kicking around. The Xbox, yes has been out longer and has some great games for it. The Wii, although does not have any great games, does have a "fun factor" that is its selling feature. The PS3 will not sell the numbers until the release games like Assassins Creed, GT4, FF13, Etc. They should have had a big title to back up the console upon release. Even nintendo was smart and released Zelda for it. Not a brand new version, but one to help sales as Link fans were able to swing along with him. The PS3 is a great system for graphics, and the new patch makes it better for home entertainment (A feature that should had been released on release) but for crying out loud get some games out for the system so that you can actually make some money and sell some.

Back in 2005, before the 360 launched, the losses for $5 Billion. Then the 360 launches, with it's HUGE failure rate, sky high warranty costs.

Microsoft never made a single cent on the original Xbox, and lost $4 billion (check Forbes for the report). The 360 is even worse, and not expected to make any money for Microsoft until deep into 2008.
