Sony has confirmed that unfortunately 200,000 Brits will be without the extremely popular console this Christmas. Originally set to ship 365,000 units, Sony now says that they will only be able to deliver 165,000 units to the English due to teething problems during production and the extremely high demand in Japan and the United States for the console. According to ZDNet UK the cut was 35,000 units (from 200,000 to 165,000), not (200K + 165K = 365,000).
35000 is the 17% of 200,000 mentioned in the article. But if you count the units reduced from the projected for USA, then it would be 535,000 units (500K + 35K). Anyway it's a bad news for all gamers (and parents too).

|IM not a brit or anything but if i bought something, and they said that I would have it before christmas to give to little tommy, then i would go insane. What they need to do, to make it far is divide up the number of systems they do have into 3 groups. Then form those groups make a lottery lets say on who gets the system. So that at lest some brits can get a ps2.
Not only does ps2 going to be obsolte very soon, the dvd player does not play all dvds. Thats right the old dvd's dont play. So before you buy a dvd movie, make sure that it says dvd compatible if you plan on watching it on your ps2. It also doesn't even come with a remote, which also really sucks. You have to buy a little unit that plugs into it. Which sucks because if the advertise dvd player they should say, but not all the dvd are compatible.

|Why would I want one when i got a geforce2 pro graphic card in my computer? IM not mad that I did not get one because I could of, my friend offer to sell it to me, since he didn't like it very much. And there are Dvd's that do not work, just to clarify.

|I don't own a PS2 and won't buy one. I have played one for a number of hours and I would NOT own one. Don't get me wrong, they are nice and have great graphics. However, are those graphics $300.00 better than the Dreamcast? No, and I don't need another DVD player.
Too bad, so sad for Sony. By the time they get off their asses and produce enough PS2's to satisfy demand, people will realize how mediocre these things are and interest will be dead. Sony could have, in a matter of 2 months, regained control of the console market. Instead, it'll be another Atari Jaguar. Rest in peace....

|Man you are a Dreamcast fan boy, i got my PS2 on Monday and it is the best thing ever! The DVD player is great, you could compare it to my $1000.00 DVD player. The only thing that sucks is no remote. The games are sweet. The PS2 launch titles are better that the whole Dreamcast libary. The DC is dead man, i am sorry to tell you that. If you are wondering what games i am taking about let me just name a few.

3.)NHl 2001
4.)Tekken Tag

Sweet DVD player for someone who was smart and waitied a extra few months for the PS2 so he wouldn't have to buy 2. And yes, the DVD player is top 'o the line sucker. SO lets say a nice amount for the DVD player, $149 (which I would have spent anyway). Now your getting the best gaming system for only $150. |Ok you consul buffs are making this message board thick… You who say the DC is better and you who say the PS2 is a wash out… We ALL know everyone has there preferences on what they like and don’t like, right? I do have the say that the DC is impressive and so is the PS2 not to mention the Xbox. I plan on owning these… Right now I own two of them and am looking forward to the Xbox… However! NO one has a right to trash any system! Think about it everything and everyone brings a new flavor to the market… If no one starting bringing something new to the table then you all would be siting in your living rooms playing a 2D Zelda or Football game on the NES… And if no one else were around then there would be no competition… I think Sega did a great Job on their system and it is not dead yet, the online play has sparked a new playing field for all gamers. Sony is doing great with their new creation, including the addition of the DVD player (it WAS made for playing games, it just has the option of playing movies I might add)… And I am sure Microsoft will do just fine. Now what I am trying to say here is everyone will buy the system they want most or are most loyal to, unless you are like me a buy all of them. Just remember that with out consuls like Jaguar ect. these new ideas would have never made it to the table. Show some respect my friends.

Ok my mate has a PS2 yes it is nice and fast, etc, etc BUT it is already old!
It is slow compared to PCs now you can get 1.2 GHz+ processors, Grpahics cards with 20X the mem and speed faster DVD drives, the list goes on.
Yes buying a PC for £2000 is much more expensive BUT it is far more powerful! plus it has this little feature that the PS2 dont got!

the games have been lowered in spec because the games were not initially designed for an emothion chip (you will notice that the DC plays some games better!)

Are the graphics $300 better than a Dreamcast, ok so apparently now they are giving away Dreamcasts, as PS2 cost a little over $300.
oh, and yes they are.
And they don't have to regain control in the console market, as they never lost it to begin with.
Think how many more people have a PS than a Dreamcast.
Also it's not sheer power (which the PS2 smokes the dreamcast in) it's also publishers that are signed to make games for the console, do the research you'll find that again the PS2 comes out on top in that category. Face it the only console that will even challenge the Ps2 is the X-box
