Playboy Joins iPod Revolution with 'iBod'

By Nate Mook | Published January 4, 2005, 1:41 PM

Not one to miss out on pop culture trends, Playboy has decided to join the portable media bandwagon. The men's magazine has unveiled a new Playboy.com editorial feature called "iBod," which consists of photos optimized for Apple's iPod Photo audio player.

"The overwhelming response we have received for this feature supports our theory that iPod Photo users are a technologically advanced group with a significant interest in enjoying beautiful Playboy images," said John D. Thomas, editor of Playboy.com.

I would imagine many many people will boycott iPod for this. While I may not exactly boycott it, I'll never use iPod again--go ahead and bombard me with the kiddie comments. I don't care, I'll never do anything to help or support playboy knowingly.

Let me remind you that Apple has nothing to do with this. It's just Playboy taking advantage of a widly successful business model, that being the iPod. Boycott Playboy, not Apple. It's not their fault, my friend.

That's like having Playboy on XFM. It's just plain funny.

Playboy's business model, while brilliant during the 60s to the early 90s is dated, as much print media is nowadays. McLeans keeps sending us free magazines. Does anybody read them...No.

Some products cannot update their business model. Look at the small stereo stores. Loyal customers (a dying breed) are all that keeps them open. They have to change their business model or die. (Computers dealers I am sure feel a similar pinch.) The big box stores have very competitive pricing, and if you don't care about service, they usually have stock and you can walk away without paying for 6 months.

I cannot imagine that anyone would want to have someone look at their iPods with Playboy pictures. How many people do you see walking around with a playboy under their arm? At work? At School? Nyet.

i know a fair ammount of people with pics and even videos in their phones, so having them on an ipod is no different. i work at a phone store and the most popular wallpapers i load for poeple are porn. that being said, does it still seem so rediculous for an ipod? the beauty of it is you can walk down the street with an ipod in your hand...
