Report: AOL Looking to Sell UK Unit

English newspaper The Guardian said Friday that AOL now has plans to shed its British division, signaling the company is about to exit the European market. With 2.2 million subscribers, the company is Britain's third largest Internet service provider. It is believed that Citigroup has been given the task of selling AOL UK, as it has for both the company's French and German divisions.
It is not clear at this time whether or not AOL plans to either strike a partnership, or is looking to completely shed the unit altogether. However, press reports indicate that AOL has placed all options on the table. No timetable has been placed on the completion of a sale.
uhoh, I'm a "savvy" AOL UK user. Why do I use AOL? Easy, with dsl, I dont need that horrid AOL software, and it's reliable, UNCAPPED usage, not easy to find in the UK now. My worry, if its sold, is that it will be capped, in which case I'll drop it like a shot

|I'm not computer illiterate and have been using AOL since 2004. Of course then I was quite computer illeterate. But paying $7.95 is not killing me. Point is, not everybody that has an AOL account is a dumb ass.

|Well if the right person/s were to but AOL UK outright then it could only mean good news for AOL users. If the wrong person/s were to buy AOL UK then it could have a knock on effect within the and not be very good at all for ALL users.

|How could someone buying the UK division hurt all AOL users? or all internet users? I have to say I'm confused.
Also, not sure if this will hurt the EU, but I kinda hope it does. They seem to be in the business of bullying recently. I think Microsoft and some of the other BIG names should pull out of EU as well. I mean if it was financially feasible.
